India's Independance!

After the Quit India Movement brought out the strong anti-British feeling that was shared by all, the British power in India was pretty badly shaken. It was well known that India's strong Navy, Army and Airforce system was what British was relying heavily on. And once the British Rulers began to sense the anti-british developing from these forces they knew they wouldn't be able to hold India too much longer. In fact they could see the British imperialism coming to an end.

Despite Englands victories during World War II, the nation as a whole had lost it's absolute power in the eyes of the people around the world. Then when Clement Atlee replaced CHurchill in England's general election for prime minister, Atlee soon let it be known that he was going to grant India's independence. And soon after a Cabinet Mission was sent to India from Britain on march of 1946 with the purpose of negotiating with the Indian leaders for the terms of their freedom.

During the framing of the new Indian Constitution the Muslim's stated their demands for a separate country with Hinah as their leader. Riots broke out as a result of this. India finally gained their freedom on August 14, 1947. A man named Pundit Jawaharlal Nehru was appointed as the frist prime minister and Dr. Rajendra Prasad became India's first president. Since India was going through a lot of changed they took on a five year plan that would help them out with their economic development. So finally on January 26, 1950 India declared themselves as a democratic nation and to this day they are still one of the biggest democracies in the world. 1956 was when India was divided into 14 states and 6 union territories. This change was on a basis of al the different languages in spoken in India. And today in India there are 25 states and 7 union territories.
