Title: Doctor's Logs 26 Author: Istannor Series: TOS Part: 1/1 Rating: [PG 13] Codes: It's McCoy; he curses Summary: McCoy wants to know who and what is James Kirk. Disclaimer: These are the characters of Paramount and Viacom, they own them I only check 'em out from the library. I promise to bring 'em back. Doctor's Logs 26 I cheated. I know I said before that I'd wait until Jim was ready to tell us who and what he is. Dammit, I hate mysteries. I got back from shoreleave, I started thinking about everything that's happened since I got aboard the ship, and I started to rifle the records again. I have broken it down to several key issues. 1. Jim was able to kill Gary. 2. Jim knew when Spock was in trouble on the planet where the animals attacked the landing party. 3. Jim gets an awful lot of hunches that turn out to be absolutely true. 4. Jim was able to find a weather machine and cavern hidden for centuries on the planet we named Rain. 5. Jean Little is not what she appears to be. I checked her record from the diplomatic corps and she is considered to be excellent at what she does. Supposedly, she was born in Hawaii and is only 61 years old. I don't believe it. 6. Everything that happened to Jim on Tarsus is closed. Only Nogura can authorize access to his file. 7. Jim's father was the head of Black Ops. His body was never recovered. He died on a mission with April and Nogura. 8. I looked at Jim's IQ rating and his test scores since he was a kid. Up until age 13, he was always in the top quartile of his class, but never at the top. After he returned from Tarsus, he maxed out on all of his test scores and finished his remaining schooling in a year. He was the youngest candidate to be accepted at the Academy. Then at the Academy, he was No. 1 in his class, in a double major, until the final exams. He ended up graduating No. 2 in his graduating class and all of his testing since then makes him seem only moderately above-average in intelligence, integrated thinking and creativity. I suddenly don't believe those results anymore. 9. I have also gone over his medical records thoroughly. He always slightly exceeds the Starfleet standards for physical fitness: agility, strength, and endurance. He always heals quickly from any injury or sickness. He was definitely sick; he definitely got hurt, but he always got better. I see a pattern here. 10. He has survived at least three injuries/diseases that are normally fatal in humans. 11. He tolerates me. He even likes me. 12. He thinks Spock has a good sense of humor. 13. Almost all of Jim's old girlfriends still like him. Now that is truly weird. 14. He can beat Spock at Chess. Spock is Vulcan, and a really smart Vulcan. No other person on this ship can beat Spock; I have only seen others play Old Stone Face to a draw. I have added all of this up together and I still don't have the slightest idea who James Kirk is. What I have decided is that he has been hiding who he is ever since he entered the Academy. He had a burst, just enough to get into the Academy fast. He was always described as a "hard worker" at the Academy. He got beat out in the last quarter by some guy I have never heard of. Supposedly the guy became a diplomat. I have decided that Tarsus was the catalyst. What in the world happened to him on that planet? I will never tell this to anyone and this particular record is fully encrypted. Whatever secret Jim is carrying, it is obvious from looking at his life that he has been living and working for the good guys. I know that in the very depths of my soul. He wants us to come to his cabin this evening for dinner. I think he means to tell us the secret. I'm ready. I'm not going to change how I feel about him. I can not imagine any better calvary coming to my rescue then James T. Kirk. I have watched him sweat, fight, and bleed for his crew and the Federation. There's nothing he can say to make me doubt him. There, I've said it. END LOG Resume Log I know he was going to tell us, but at the last moment we had a distress signal from a downed passenger vessel. We're on our way to rescue the civilians. Maybe after we finish that, Jim, Spock, and I can finally sit down for our talk. End LOG
