Title: Doctor's Logs Author: Istannor Series: TOS Part: 1/1 Rating: PG13 Codes: Lang., content Summary: McCoy is ordered to keep a personal log as a physician, of his observations aboard the Enterprise. They are for his use only, for therapy and to work out any issues he might have. Disclaimer: These are the characters of Paramount and Viacom, they own them I only check 'em out from the library. I promise to bring 'em back. AUTHOR'S NOTE: this story was in response to a documentary I saw on PBS about child prostitutes and the seemingly upstanding men and women that use and abuse them. It also advances my story line, because Kirk and the Ambassador will meet again. Be forewarned, there is no sex in this story, there is no real violence, but it is about a subject I find especially distasteful, so I am warning my readers. As for the language, well it's Bones talking, so there's cussing. McCoy's logs are often out of order, as far as dates, secondary to ion storm damage to the memory banks and his forgetting to back them up on a secondary site, like Spock told him to. Start Log Stardate 1804.3 Shit, shit, shit. I saw it but I don't have the foggiest idea what to do about it. I am crippled by not being able to access Kirk's full history. Maybe if I looked at it, I could figure out what the hell happened yesterday. He sure in the hell isn't saying anything, and the Vulcan states that he fell, that's all. Yeah, and I am an Argellian virgin. Let me start at the beginning. We were on a diplomatic mission. Kirk hates those, even though he is damn good at diplomacy when he wants to be. He obviously didn't want to be good at it yesterday. We weren't the first choice either, which is a little strange. It seems the Excalibur was supposed to go, but they got caught in an ion storm and had to go in for repairs. So, we go pick up this Ambassador and his partner. He is 55, good looking, and a really, slick, kinda guy named Javert. He wore this cologne that got on my last nerves, but something else about him got on Kirk's first and last nerves, from the moment he met the man. I had never seen that side of Jim before. He can be really intimidating. I mean, you felt it descend down into the briefing room like a fog. He hated Javert. I have never known Kirk to so obviously hate someone. The Ambassador was always nervous around Jim as a result. I asked Jim about it, he didn't even answer me. I asked Spock about it and he said he really did not know what the problem was. I believe him. He looked as lost as I have ever seen him look. So, we are on our way to a meeting with the planetary ruler of a world that has applied for Federation membership, with a real hostile Captain in the lead, and a real nervous Ambassador, bringing up the rear, as far in the rear as he could get. Not a good scene, you know. Kirk spent every off- duty minute he had in the gym, lifting weights and working out. It took us 10 days to get there, and he had started to get a really defined look, which meant he wasn't eating. Something sure as shit was eating him, though. He let the Ambassador go down to the planet surface without him. He sent Spock and me, of all people, along with the ambassadorial team. The Ambassador's entourage was huge, so Jim wasn't missed numerically, but James Kirk had never let anyone do his job before. I smelled real trouble. When we got down there, we walked into the single most hedonistic society I have ever seen. And all of it was directed towards the ruling class. I can't say the regular folks were slaves, but you couldn't balance a scalpel tip on the difference. It was pretty disgusting. The Ambassador looked real comfortable though. I wanted to take a really hot bath to get clean again when I got back to the ship. I had to settle for a shower. After awhile, The Alpha, at least that's what he called himself, asked after Jim. He had heard of the famous Captain Kirk and was looking forward to meeting him. The Ambassador, to his credit, tried to get Jim out of it, but the man was not willing to take no for an answer. On second thought, I think the Ambassador didn't want Jim down there either. Spock called up after he tried, and failed to get Jim a bye, and let him know he was wanted on the surface. Kirk didn't say anything, he just broke the connection. The Vulcan tried not to show his shock, but I could tell Spock was worried. When Jim beamed in, he was in full dress uniform and the air that surrounded him, crackled. The man can be real damn impressive. He wore the look of a hunting Lion. I only hoped he wouldn't pounce on the wrong guy. He had a smile that came nowhere near his eyes. And his eyes, well I don't care what anybody else says, his damn eyes change colors. When he has been angry before they would get lighter. As a physician, I could venture it is secondary to vasoconstriction and pupillary constriction. Whatever the cause, his eyes were gold. That was not good news. Anyway he put on his best diplomatic face and sat and responded appropriately to any question asked. He even told a brief story to the Alpha. But he never lost his rigidity. Spock sidled real close to him and stayed there. Well, they gave us a banquet, which we had to stay for. The food was exquisite. It always is in societies like that. They are too self-indulgent, to not eat well. Kirk played with his food. He had lost 10 pounds in the last 10 days. You could see it in the etching of his face. I saw how he had done it. I don't think he took in 600 calories last night. Get on with it , McCoy. The next part is not for the faint of heart. After the food was cleared, they brought in the entertainment. Oh boy. They brought in men and women, of all sizes and shapes. They were butt naked, and we were told they were for our pleasure. Some of the folks started to take them up on it right away. Now, I knew for a fact, that James Kirk has been in some orgies in his day. Shoot, the man is a frigging sexual superstar off the ship, or so the stories go. I got sorta pissed. I couldn't believe he had a problem with this. It is a fact of life on many worlds. He didn't have to screw anyone, if he didn't want to. So, I was climbing my high horse, and it fell on me. They brought in the children. The smallest, youngest, most heartbreakingly sweet-looking children, around 11 to 12 standard years of age, you have ever seen. I had to pick my jaw off the damn floor. The Alpha turned to Kirk and said to him, if the adults were not his choice, perhaps the little ones, as he called them, were more to his liking. I saw Kirk give him a look that was so full of death, that the man's guards moved towards him, and started to go for their weapons. Jim just silently got up and started to walk slowly across the room. Spock was a millimeter behind him. The Alpha took a deep breath, and his forehead broke out in a sweat. I started to scramble up to follow. The Ambassador must have had one too many. He had grabbed one of the children and when Kirk got near him, he was actively engaged in fondling the child. Nothing intimate, just suggestive. Suddenly, I realized why Kirk hated the man. Ambassador Javert was a pedophile. The Federation, in true logic, had sent a pedophile to a world where pedophilia was the norm. In their mind, it was a perfect use of talent. I understand it. I also want to throw up. I was watching Jim as he saw the Ambassador. I have never seen a human move that fast. He moved towards him silently, with a look that predicted a great deal of pain. I saw the Ambassador see Jim. The man was terrified. That's when Spock fell. He says he tripped. That's what he told the Ambassador. That's what he told the Alpha. That's what he told me. He didn't say a word to Jim. His "fall" landed him on the back of Jim's legs, and made Jim fall down hard enough to maybe stun him momentarily, but not knock him out. I have seen that particular man take harder blows and shake it off. Somehow, by the time, Spock got himself disentangled from Kirk, Kirk was unconscious. The Vulcan was seemingly mortified that his clumsiness, had resulted in an injury to his Captain. He called me over, and when I told him, Jim was just knocked out, Spock picked him up and carried him back to the ship. I let Jim out of the sickbay this morning. I tried to get him to talk about it. I might as well have been talking to a wall. He said he was just going to tell the Ambassador that he was beaming back to the ship. Then, he said Spock tripped. There isn't a damn thing I can do when they both deny anything happened. I called the Head of Starfleet Medical to get access to Kirk's sealed files. I got referred to Nogura. Admiral Nogura, the head of Starfleet, came on screen and told me, the answer was no. The files would remain sealed. The Excalibur will be here tomorrow to take the Ambassador, and his party, home. We have been given a new assignment. END LOG 1 1
