-1/3 of all 19 yr. old females were married to men only about 22 yrs. old.

-divorce rate: 1 in 10; divorce was unacceptable then.

-families did many things together:
church
vacation
family reunions
big-league baseball
watched TV
worked in yards
washed cars

- birthrate peaked in 1957 at 4.3 million new babies

- few women wished to work; only 19.3 were working in 1951

- about 1/2 (47%) of college students were females in 1920, in 1950 it dropped to 35%

- girls were expected to play with Barbie dolls; little boys with GI Joe
