THE GIONFRIDDO'S

My Grandfather, Carmelo Gionfriddo was born on 21 January 1881, at Melilli (SR) Sicily. His father was Sebastian Gionfriddo, date of birth unk at this time, mother's name is Sebastiana ALETTA, this information is from Carmelo's Birth Records. Carmelo came to the United States on the SS Sicilian Prince sailing from Messina Sicily on 28 April 1905, arriving at the Port of New York on 14 May 1905. This information is from the Passenger List and his Declartion of Intention. After his arrival, Carmelo went to Newport RI, to live with his brother, Biagio, who came to the US in 1900. There is not much information that I can find about my Grandfather. What little information that I have will be right here on these pages. Carmelo went to work as the Caretaker at "Edgehill" the "William DeForest Manice Estate" for 24 years. He was a member of the Lodge Progresso e Civilita, Sons of Italy. Carmelo married Sebastiana DiModica on 12 January 1907. Sebastiana was born, 13 December 1891 at Melilli (SR) Sicily. She came to the US on 24 Sept 1906 via the Port of New York. Port of departure, ship and date are unk at this time. There were eight (8) children born from this union the names and dates of birth and deaths are as follows. 1st: Sebastiano, born 14 March 1909, died 9 July 1916, 2nd: Joseph Paul, born 2 May 1911, died 3 April 1966. 3rd: Leonora, born 15 July 1913, died (unk). 4th: Rosie, born 14 April 1916, died January 1993. 5th: Seastian, born 29 December 1921, died 15 January 1987, 6th Virgina Mary, born 13 November 1923, died 22 March 1998. 7th Lillian Marie, born 31 July 1926, still living. 8th Anna Marie, born 22 Auguest 1931, died January 1992.
