These are links that I have found particularly, well, entertaining,
if not immensely informative. One might say they are miscellaneous in nature,
as there probably is no rhyme or reason to their order. So just follow the
links and become cool like me.
Associated Press photos of Mark McGwire's 62nd
home run.
Wal-Mart Sucks- This site,
similar to "AOL Sucks",
is a righteous attempt to expose the fascist Wal-Mart corporation.
Money Mark- His generic title
would be keyboard player for the Beastie Boys, but he is so much more than
that.
MacMAME- Here
is emulation.net's index for the
quintessential 1980s-video-game emulator.
The State Journal-Register- The online
presence for the newspaper in Springfield, Illinois. The SJ-R
is the best newspaper between St. Louis and Chicago. Their photo staff is
among the best in the country, having won numerous awards, the reporting
is first-rate and the design and copy editing is the best in the country.
Of course, I happen to be a part of that crack copy-editing staff, so humble
am I.
The Daily Egyptian- The
online presence of the newspaper at Southern
Illinois University at Carbondale. I think I got all the capitals right.
Read today's issue, or browse the archives. You can also check up on the
newsroom via the spy camera, and meet Gus Bode.
The Onion- The world's funniest
fake-news newspaper. I guarantee at least one belly-shaking guffaw per issue.
I know they are distributed in Boulder, Colo., and Champaign, Ill.
Chez Mark's Mac Picks-
This is easily the best place to download free/shareware for the Mac. Every
Monday (usually) this site has the best of the week's addition to the Info-Mac
Archives, and is accompanied by a review and screenshots. For those reluctant
to use the AOL download sites, there
are several other places from which you can download.
The Springfield Nuclear Power Plant-
Probably the biggest compendium of Simpsons-related sites out there. You'll
just have to experience it for yourself to appreciate the sheer magnitude
of this treasure trove. Be warned, however, because many Simpsons pages
on the web are in a state of limbo, thanks to the Fox
network and its cadre of menacing lawyers. Some of the links have been
shut down by the aforementioned cadre.
A Tribe Called Quest-
The official site of the world's greatest rap group. A Tribe Called Quest
consists of 4 members: Phife Dawg, Ali Shaheed Muhammad, Q-Tip, and Jarobi...
Ween Wide Web- The world's greatest
ummmm... duo of non-related brothers.
Bell Labs'
Text-to-Speech- Just type in what you want to hear and choose your file
type and it will give the audio in one of eight user-specified voices. Here
is a sample accusing a DE
reporter of smoking crystal meth.
ESPN SportsZone- The official site
for ESPN, the Eternal Sports Programming Network. Up-to-the-cup-adjustment
updates of scores from all sorts of sports. The Java stuff takes too long
to load up, even on a fairly fast LAN connection.
