The Meaning of the word Hmong

When Confucius wrote of rebels within the state 2,500 years ago in his Analects, many believe he may have been referring to the Hmong, who were referred to as "Meo" which translates into "barbarian". Most of us today reject this name and instead prefer to use the name "Hmong", which means "free men". Please note there is presently a debate on this particular translation.
