"History with its flickering lamp stumbles along the trail of the past,
trying to reconstruct its scenes, to revive its echoes and kindle with pale gleams
the passion of former days...." Sir Winston Churchill

The Thompson Family History Group was formed in July 1998 to foster the preservation of the history of the Thompson family in Australia; in particular that of the descendants of

Theodore Horatio Thompson and his wife Johanna Collingridge.

The family originated in Australia when Theodore and his mother Thirza (Mrs. William Wedd) emigrated to South Australia aboard the ship "Lloyds" in 1838. Our research shows that the family came to Australia from Kent, however research into their earlier doings continues.

From research to date, there are members of this family living in most states of Australia, some with lengthy descendant lines. The most populous spreading of this family lies in South and Western Australia.

If you would like to join us in our search for both descendants and ancestors of this line, please contact our secretary - details on how to do this can be obtained from the Contacts item on the menu to the left of this page.

We are seeking assistance from family members or others who may have known any of the descendants of this line. Photographs, obituary notices and anecdotes are especially welcome.
