Sandy Creek Patriot Band Directors


MARK R. ELROD

is in his sixteenth year of teaching instrumental music and is in his third year as Director of Bands and Chairman of the Fine Arts Department at Sandy Creek High School in Tyrone, Georgia. Mr. Elrod previously served for seven years as the Director of Bands at Central-Carroll County High School in Carrollton, Georgia where the band program was cited for numerous awards and accomplishments. While at Central-Carroll, Mr. Elrod's concert and marching bands consistantly received supirior ratings and won numerous class placement and sweepstakes awards.

Mr. Elrod's bands have performed for many occasions and in many locations including the New Year's Parade in London, England, during the 1996 Centennial Olympic Games in Atlanta, Georgia, the Egleston Children's Christmas Parade, Peach Bowl Parade, and the Grand Opening Ceremonies for the Georgia Dome, all in Atlanta. His students have been selected for numerous All-State bands, the Georgia Governor's Honers Program, the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra and various other honors music programs, emsembles, and scholarships.

Mr. Elrod has served as an adjudicator for concert band, marching band, and solo/emsemble events throughout the southeastern United States. He has served as a guest conductor for various bands, including the university of Georgia Symphonic Band I, and the State University of West Georgia Symphonic Band. Mr. Elrod has presented papers on two occasions for the Georgia Music Educators Association In-Service Conference.

Mr. Elrod is a member of numerous professional organizations and has held positions of leadership in many of these, including the Georgia Music Educators Association in which he has served as a member of the state band council and as an organizing chairman for the Georgia All-State Bands. He is also a member of Music Educators National Conference, National Band Association, Wold Association of Symphonic Bands and Ensembles, International Association of Leadership Honor Society, Kappa Delta Epsilon Honerary Education Society, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Profesional Music Fraternity. As a member of Phi Mu Alpha, he has served on the National Council, and as a Collegiate Province Representative. He has been a performing member of the University of Alabama-Birmingham Community Wind Band, and the North Georgia Wind Symphony.

Mr. Elrod received a graduate degree in music education from the State University of West Georgia, and attended Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, Alabama on piano and tuba scholarships, where he completed his B.S. degree in music education, and graduated with special honors in music. Mr. Elrod is originally from Demorest, Georgia, and is married to the former Lynn Brantley of Talladega, Alabama. The Elrods have one child, Kristin, who is eight years old.



CURT SANDERS

is a native of Tifton, Georgia. Upon graduation from Tift County High School, Mr. Sanders did undergraduate work at Columbus College and graduated from Valdosta State University with a Bachelor of Music Education degree and a Master of Music Education degree. Mr. Sanders is a former member of the Spirit of Atlanta Drum and Bugle Corps and has also performed on numerous occasions with the Columbus (GA) Symphony. As a percussionist, he is in high demand as a marching, concert, and jazz clinician. Mr. Sanders is currently in his fourth year as Assistant Director of Bands at Sandy Creek High School where he conducts Concert Band I and assists with conducting responsibilities for Concert Band II and the Symphonic Winds. He also teaches two Percussion Techniques classes and the Beginning Band classes at Tyrone and North Fayette Elementary Schools. Prior to accepting his current position, he served on the International Music Staff at Valdosta High School in Valdosta, Georgia. Professional affiliations for Mr. Sanders include the Music Educators' National Conference, the Georgia Music Educators' Association, and Percussive Arts Society.
