ABOUT THE BOOMER COACHES

The Boomer's coaching staff are volunteers committed to success. Like United States (USA) Swimming , we strive to keep individuals in swimming and improve the individual and the sport. Our coaches regularly attend coach's clinics held locally at Jekyll Island, and have attended those held regionally at Nashville TN, and nationally at the Olympic Training Center, Colorado Springs, CO. They have carefully developed and consistently implemented their training program, but it is one that is continually evolving and being improved. The members of the coaching staff are:

Welcome to Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay, GeorgiaHead Coach -- Rich Gamble. Rich began a law enforcement career in 1973 and is currently employed as a Special Agent, Naval Criminal Investigative Service on the Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Physical Education and a four-year degree in Criminal Justice. Rich has been coaching swimming since 1990, and has been Head Coach of the Boomers since 1992. He is a USA Swimming, and an American Swimming Coaches Association (ASCA) level two certified swim coach, possessing an American Red Cross lifeguard certification.

Asst Coach -- Lucy Corning. Lucy is the most recent addition to the Boomer coaching staff, joining in 1999. As a veteran Navy spouse, she served as coach and swim instructor for 13 years with the former Navy Jax Swim Team on the Naval Air Station, Jacksonville, FL. With her husband's retirement, the family moved here to Camden County, and she now serves as Head Coach of the Boomer's Novice Team. With an Associate's degree in child developement, Lucy brings with her vast experience, enthusiasm and expertise in coaching and swim instruction, especially younger swimmers. Lucy is employed by the PSA Leisure Services Department as Assistant Aquatics Manager. She is a USA Swimming, and an American Swimming Coaches Association (ASCA) level two certified swim coach, and holds an American Red Cross lifeguard and Water Safety Instructor certification.

COMSUBRON TWENTY Information PageAsst Coach -- Dave Green. Dave began coaching for the Boomers in 1992. He has been on active duty Naval service since 1972 and is currently serving as Command Master Chief on board Submarine Squadron 20. Dave holds a Bachelor's degree in Vocational Education and is pursuing a Master's degree in Vocational Education. He also serves as a Harrietts Bluff volunteer firefighter. Dave is a USA Swimming certified swim coach and meet official, and holds an American Red Cross lifeguard and first responder certification. Dave has two sons on the team.

Asst Coach -- Ray Martz. Ray received his coaching certification in 1997. He is currently employed as a teacher at Woodbine Elementary School, Woodbine, GA. His enthusiasm and dedication to the team are evident each day during practice, challenging each swimmer to reach deep within themselves for personal bests. Ray was named as the replacement head coach for the Camden County High School swim team for the 2000-2001 season, and looks forward to expanding and refining that program. Ray is a USA Swimming certified swim coach and has one daughter on the team.
