On January 20, 1999, about 22:15 local, an East African BAe Concorde flight EAC002, register number 5XMNJ, was attempting a landing at Nairobi, Kenya (HKNA). During the last few feet, the aircraft encountered windshear. The GPWS was operating correctly and warned the pilot of the situation. The aircraft landed hard and blew out 2 main gear tires in the process. A flight plan had been filed for the flight conducted under 14 CFR Part 91 which originated in Santa Maria, Azores. The weather for the majority of the flight was clear and calm until the phase of landing. None of the 93 passengers or 8 crew members were injured, and the aircraft sustained only minor damage.
