On January 20, 1999, approximately 2215 local, an East African Airways BAe Concord, Flight EAC002, registration 5XMNJ was attempting a landing at Kenya's Nairobi Airport. The crew contacted flight service and found that the winds were 250 at 12. The flight originally started out as clear and windless. Upon landing, the Concorde (on lease from British Airways) blew out two tires and was suspected in scrapping the undercarriage after it caught a gust of wind. None of the 93 passengers or 8 crew members were injured and the aircraft sustained only minor damage.
The scheduled flight, which originated from Santa Maria, Azores to Niarobi, Kenya was being operated in visual meteorological conditions at the time of the accident. An IFR flight plan had been filed for the flight
At the time of the investigation, the aircraft was being x-rayed for any distortions in the frame. Early reports indicated no structural damage occured.
