On January 11, 1999, approximately 1545 local, a Air Scandinavia DC-9-41,
Flight AS614, registration NSEDAC was departing Stockholm ARN Airport, runway 26.
At about 3 miles out and 6000ft, the crew was notified by a flight attendent
about heavy smoke in the aft gallery. The crew made an immediate descent and landing
back at Stockholm, runway 26. Upon landing, smoke was still billowing and the airport
fire department was called out to the aircraft. The aircraft sustained only minor
smoke damage.
During the evacuation, the slides on the right were unusable due to high winds
from the north. Two passengers sustained minor injuries during the evacuation and
were taken to a local hospital, treated, and released the same day.
