Editor's Corner

Thursday, May 28, 1998

This will be my monthly (weekly?) editor's column, where I let you know what's going on in the Kids Only Writing Showcase.

Congratulations to all the winners of our April contest, "The Joker." Unfortunatly, since this contest was not as well recieved as some others have been, I have decided to replace it next year with another contest theme. Please e-mail me your suggestions for the contest theme.

Coming up in August, the Kids Only Writing Showcase will be celebrating it's 1st Birthday! Congratulations everyone! It's been a great first year, and we've seen lots of growth and accomplishment. We've been growing constantly: we now have over 300 subscribers! I'd like to have over 500 by our 2nd birthday. For our birthday celebration, we'll be recognizing people who have been with KOWS since the begining, having a large membership drive, and publishing our largest issue ever! I'm hoping that all of our subscribers will come up with something to submit, even if it's very small.

Due to our rapid growth, I'm finding that KOWS is becoming harder and harder to handle on my own. For that reason, I was wondering if some of you would be interested in helping out. I'm looking for people for these position:

Assistant Editor- Helps edit stories for grammer, spelling, punctuation, etc. Helps format monthly issues

Subscription Manager- Keeps track of all our subscribers, what they've submitted and when, and info about them (they'd prefer a black and white version of the newsletter, they do not wish to recieve updates, etc.)

Recruiter- Recruits new subscribers, gets people interested in the magazine.

Growth Manager- In charge of helping us expand. Getting us posted on newsstands, featured in other online zines, working closely with the Recruiter(s) to develop new strategies for increasing membership.

If you would like to apply for one of these positions, please answer these questions:

1. What position are you applying for?

2. Why do you want this position?

3. Why should I chose you for this position?

4. Are you willing and able to make a commitment to the magazine and work to meet deadlines?

Once you've completed these questions, send your answers (along with a copy of the questions) to Cheshrcat7@aol.com. Thanks for reading, and remember to send in your writing for upcoming issues of KOWS!
