William Snodgrass & Margaret of Canton Township, Washington County, Pennsylvania

William Snodgrass, b.abt.1768, was, according to family bible records, m.Dec.27, 1798, to Margaret, who was b.abt.1779. William had at least ten children, many, or perhaps all, b.Wash. Co., Pa. Margaret d.Aug.26,1837, at the age of 58, and she was buried in Hoge Cemetery (also known as the Old Graveyard), in Washington, Washington County, Pennsylvania. William d.Jan.14,1838, and was buried beside his wife. Known children, although there may have been others that d.young, were:

1-Unknown Snodgrass, b.btwn.1784 and 1790, likely d.sometime prior to 1810:

2-Jean (Jane) Snodgrass, b.Apr.19, 1800, d.unmarried on Dec.18,1845, was buried in the family plot in Hoge Cemetery:

3-Sally Belle Snodgrass, b.June 27, 1802, d.bef.1810:

4-James Patterson Snodgrass, b.Sept.21, 1804. It is believed that he may have d.some time between 1860 and 1870:

5-William Snodgrass, b.Dec.19, 1807. About 1830 he m.Margaret Chambers, d/o Thomas Chambers and Elizabeth McCullough.

6-Sarah B. Snodgrass, b.Apr.7, 1809, m.about 1829, to Phillip Lewellan (also spelled Luellan), he b.abt.1806. Sarah d.Dec.30, 1864, and was buried in early Jan.1865. Phillip d.in 1890 and was laid to rest beside his wife in the East Buffalo Presbyterian Cem. Children b.to this couple included: 

1-William Lewellan, b.Mar.8, 1830, d.Nov.10, 1911, bur. East Buffalo, Buffalo Twp., Wash. Co., Pa.: 
2-Nancy Lewellan, b.1831, d.Jul.23, 1862, buried East Buffalo, Buffalo Twp., Wash. Co., Pa: 
3-Henry Lewellan, b.1836:

7-Elizabeth Snodgrass, also called Eliza, was b.Oct.11, 1810. She m.Mar.26, 1833, to Hamilton Vankirk, who was b.abt.1809, in Pa., the son of John and Mary Vankirk of Amwell Twp. Their children were:

3-George Washington Vankirk, b.June, 1843, d.June, 1845: 
4-Samuel Vankirk, b.1848:

8-Margaret Snodgrass, b.Jan.9, 1813, m.Robert Jackson (b.abt.1815 in Pa.), likely the son of Robert Jackson whose will was probated in 1865. Margaret d.Mar.28, 1870, and her husband d.Oct.16, 1894. Both are buried in the city cemetery in Washington, Wash. Co., Pa. Known children are: 

1-Margaret Jackson, b.1845, d.Jan.26, 1863, buried in Washington:

9-Samuel Snodgrass, b.Mar.4, 1815, m.May 10, 1842, to Martha Jane Maxwell, of South Strabane Twp. He m.second to Lisette Netler, who was b.abt.1822, in Miss., and who d.Apr.21,1913. She was buried in the family plot in Washington Cem. Their children were: 

1-William Snodgrass, b.abt.1848, m.Ella Lacock, d/o George W. Lacock of South Washington, who was b.Aug.1849, in Pa. William d.some time after 1910 and was buried in Washington: 
2-Henry Lane Snodgrass, also called Harry or Lane, was b.Aug.25, 1850, and on May 7, 1890, he m.Idella Herron, who d.in 1939 and is buried in the New Cemetery, Upper Buffalo, Hopewell Twp. Henry Lane was a physician in Buffalo Village, Hopewell Twp., for 49 years, and d.Aug.15, 1929. He was also buried in the New Cemetery, and had one known child, Ella Herron Snodgrass, who was b.Sept.1891: 
3-Frank Snodgrass, b.Dec.1854, m.Virginia ?? (Jennie) who was b.Jan.1857, in Pa. Frank d.after 1910 and is also buried in the Washington Cem:

10-John Snodgrass, b.Apr.4, 1817, appears in the 1820 census, and in family bible records, although he must have d.prior to 1830.

11-Kesiah Brotherton Snodgrass, also known as Kisser or Kisert, was b.Apr.26, 1819, and m.about 1843 to Elisha Ely, who was b.abt.1816 in Pa., the son of Martin Ely and Ann Jolly, of Amwell Twp. He m.first, on Nov.3, 1838, to Mary Clark, who d.some time before 1843. Known children of Elisha and Kesiah, although there may have been others, all b.Buffalo Twp., were: 

1-Margaret Ely, b.abt.1844: 
2-James Ely, b.abt.1846:
3-John C. Ely, b.abt.1849.

Both Elisha (d.1905) and Kesiah (d.1881) are buried in Washington Cemetery, in the city of Washington, Wash. Co., Pa:

12-Mary Hannah Snodgrass, b.May 31, 1819, must also have d.in infancy, as there is no mention of her in any records researched -save for the family bible, which mentions only her birth.

13-Robert Campbell Snodgrass, b.Oct.3, 1823, m.Elizabeth Agness Sayer, also known as Eliza or Lizzie, who was b.abt.1816 in Pa. Although it is unknown whether or not they had any children, Robert and his wife raised two of her nephews, James Sayer and Charles Sayer.
