He graduated from Independence High School; he was called to serve his country in the Korean Conflict. He graduated from the Wisconsin Institute of Mortuary Science in 1955. He married Carmen Rotering on August 22, 1955, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Arcadia.
  John joined a partnership with his brother, Eugene, in the Killian Funeral Home and Killian Furniture Store in 1958. In 1976 Eugene and John split the partnership and John became the sole owner of the furniture store  ... He was a member of the Arcadia Lion's Club, Arcadia Fire Dept., and Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, served on the O.L.P.H. Church Council, President of Arcadia Housing, Arcadia Credit Union Board, Chairman of the Trempealeau Co. Board of Supervisors, Trempealeau Co. Tourism, and the Arcadia Historical Society and the Democratic Party. He was a member of the Tickfer Erickson Legion Post 17 and the V.F.W. Post 10671. He was a farmer, hunter, trapped animals, enjoyed woodworking and gardening.
  He was preceded in death by four brothers, Alphonse "Allie", Ephraim, Edward, Eugene, three sisters, Theresa Betthauser, Marian Lisowski, and Arlene Kulig.
  Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 6, 2007, at 10:00 A.M. at the Wozney-Killian Funeral Home, 1378 Wilson Ave. with Rev, Michael Klos officiating. Friends may call at the Wozney-Killian Funeral Home from 8:30 A.M. until the time of services. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Tickfer Erickson Legion Post 17 and the V.F. W. Post 10671 will have military rites. Honorary casket bearers will be Legion members. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to Franciscan Skemp Foundation Arcadia Campus.

Albert farmed the family farm near Burnside, southwest of Independence, Wisconsin. He retired to Independence and lived on Washington Street after his son Ephriam took over the homestead. According to descendant Harvey Killian of Scobel, Montana in May 1995, Albert was born on the family farm in Burnside, southwest of Independence. He took over the family farm when his parents died. Albert and Gertrude moved to Independence where Albert worked for the Trempealeau County Highway Department until he died of cancer.

• Ruth Killian, 84, of Independence died Friday, May 4, 2007, at Tri-County Memorial Nursing Home, Whitehall.
  She was born on March 16, 1923, in Arcadia Township, Trempealeau County, to John and Gertrude (Miemietz) Woychik. Ruth married Ephraim Killian on June 28, 1944, at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Independence. He died on May 7, 1998.
  Ruth and Ephraim farmed in the town of Burnside until moving to Independence. They enjoyed gardening and canning. Ruth loved her flowers and enjoyed the Tuesday and Thursday morning coffee gatherings. She was a member of SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, its Women's Organization, rosary society and funeral luncheon committee.
  Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 9, 2007, at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Independence, with the Very Rev. Douglas C. Robertson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

  Eleanor K. Welch, 91, died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2011, at Marinuka Manor in Galesville.
  Eleanor was born in Independence, Wis., to Albert and Julia (Skroch) Killian on Oct. 22, 1919. When Eleanor was 4 months old, her mother died from influenza. Julia's sister Susie and her husband Roman Eichman adopted Eleanor and brought her to Trempealeau. She maintained ties with her siblings each summer by returning to the Killian farm.
  Following high school, she attended the University in Madison for one year. Eleanor married John Welch on April 17,1941. After marriage and motherhood, she joined the workforce in Winona, Minn., where she worked for 30 years at Miller Filter Supply.
  Eleanor loved people and spending time with them. She was a lifelong member of St. Bartholomew's Church and was very active with the P.C.C.W. She was also active in the VFW Auxiliary, FEA, and chairperson for the Community Chest for several years. In her spare time, she belonged to a card club and a sewing club, in which she formed many friendships that lasted throughout her life. Eleanor was selected as Trempealeau's Citizen of the Year during the local Catfish Days celebration. One of Eleanor's notable passions was for her hats. No matter what the occasion was, she found the appropriate hat to wear. Eleanor was an avid walker and loved having her dog, Friday, by her side. She was always interested in people and getting to know about them. She had a way of making everyone she came in contact with feel very special. Eleanor's biggest passion was her grandchildren. Whether it was sitting at the ballpark, attending a swim meet, listening to a concert, cheering at a basketball game, or playing a game of Pokeno with them, she was there to show her support to her grandkids.
  She was preceded in death by her husband, John; sons, Robert and John Jr.; her brothers, Allie, Edward, Ephraim, Eugene, and John; and sisters, Theresa, Marion, and Arlene.
  Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 12, at St. Bartholomew's Catholic Church, Trempealeau, with Father Edmund Doerre officiating. A memorial gathering will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 11, at the church.

Eugene A. Killian, 73, of Arcadia, died Saturday, June 7, 1997 at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse. 
He was born September 7, 1923 in the town of Burnside to Albert and Gertrude (Gandyra) Killian. On October 1, 1947 he married Ethelyn Hohmann at the Rectory of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Arcadia. Ethelyn died on June 7, 1988. 
Eugene owned and operated Killian Funeral Home in Arcadia from 1952 until 1992. He also owned Killian Furniture Store with his brothers, John and Martin Welmer from 1958 to 1976. Eugene served in the U.S. Army in WWII and had been Mayor of Arcadia for several years. Eugene accomplished many things in his life. 
Eugene was preceded in death by his wife and two sisters, Arlene Kulig and Theresa 'Tracy' Betthauser.

Raymond P. Lisowski, 86, of Independence died Thursday, April 15, 2004, at Tri-County Memorial Hospital, Whitehall, Wis. He was born Feb. 23, 1918, to Paul and Gertrude (Sonsalla) Lisowski in Traverse Valley, Buffalo County, Wis. He married Marian Killian on Nov. 13, 1948, at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Independence, Wis.
Ray worked for A. A. Electric Co. for 30 years. He started out as a Cat operator in Mondovi, then worked as a lineman in Cornell and promoted to foreman in Dallas, Wis. Ray was general foreman in the Chicago suburbs when he ended his career in electric construction. He retired in 1984. He was an avid fisherman, enjoyed gardening and was well known for his woodworking.
Ray was a member of SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, I.B.E.W. Local 9, Moose Lodge and Elk Rod & Gun Club.
Ray was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Lisowski; grandchildren, Kris Hainey, Daniel and David Smith; and a brother-in-law, Andy Baecker.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 19, at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Independence, with the Rev. Thomas McInnis officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday where there will be a 7:30 p.m. prayer service and rosary and 8 to 10 a.m. Monday, all at Edison Funeral Home, Independence.
