Greek Soldiers - Changing of the Guard, Syntagma Square, Athens

Athens

I arrived in Northern Greece and spent a couple of days with a friend and her parents in the city of Thessaloniki. I caught a train to Athens and arrived there around 5:00 AM. My hotel was next to the train station so I left my luggage there and walked to the Acropolis during the wee hours of the morning. When I finally arrived at the Acropolis I was very disappointed to find that it was closed for the day. It seems that it was a National Election Day and many places were closed. I was able to do a bit of exploration in the area and then caught a cab back to the city centre. I was able to see the changing of the guard in Syntagma Square and went to the Olympic Stadium.

Here is a map of the route that I took. I arrived in Thessaloniki by car and spent a couple of days there with a friend and her parents. I took the train to Athens and then a subway to Piraeus where I caught a ferry to Santorini. From Santorini I caught another ferry to Crete and from Crete I flew back to Thessaloniki where I met with my friend Christos and we drove back to London.
