Barrett's Camground Info Page
On this page is information about campgrounds, etc. all of which is
my opinion, based on what I see and my experiences, whether good or bad.
Tremont Hills Campground (Townsend, Tenn.)
This is a great campground, it has some sites right on the river
that have small decks overlooking the river. We have visited Tremont
twice (July 1991 and June 1998), we loved it both times. The
campground has a nice pool, a game room, and a fairly nice camp store
where they offer tube rentals for floating the river. You can rent a
tube at the store and go up river, float back down and get out at the
campground. The campground is usually clean and seems to be managed
well. As for as Townsend it is a beautiful, small, peaceful town which
is one of the things we like most. If Townsend is too peaceful you
can easily drive to Pigeon Forge or Gatlinburg where there is ample
attractions, etc. to visit. Townsend is also near Cades Cove which is
a must for anyone who loves the outdoors and wildlife. Vist my link

Desoto State Park (Fort Payne, Al.)
Desoto State Park is one of our favorite places to camp. We like the
campsites because they are more private than alots of campgrounds and
most of the sites are fairly level and shady. We also like
the layout of the campground, most of the sites are arranged in a
circle and the bathhouses are in the center of the circle, which puts
all the campsites about the same distance away but none of them to
close. Desoto State Park also has a larger than Olympic size pool
that all of the parks facilities share (campground, lodge and cabins).
Most state park campgrounds do not have pools that campers can use, so
this is one it's main selling points to us since our kids love
swimming. The park has some real nice walking trails some of which
have recently had long boardwalks added the entire length of the trails
so they are now handicap accessible. The people at the park have always
went out of their way to see that our stay is enjoyable and we have
never been disappointed during either of our four stays. Many of the
parks building were built by the Civil Conservation Corps, I
believe in the 1940's, and are still in really good shape.
