Bears Wrestler of the Week

1/21/02 to 1/28/02
Kyle Nickerson - 160 - Senior

Kyle has made it through 4 years of wrestling and has improved each year. His 2-1 overtime win over #5 Andy Stiles shows just how good Kyle can be. With hard work and determination, Kyle could go a long way this post-season. Possiby as far as the state tournament. Kyle is 16-12 this year with 6 pins. He was 18-17 last year which included a trip to regionals. He has won 39 career matches and looks ready to do well in February.

1/14/02 to 1/21/02
Ramon DelAngel - 140 - Senior

Ramon recorded his 9th pin of the year against Toppenish's Enrique Romero. The match was back and forth until Ramon ended it in the second with a near side cradle for the pin. Ramon has been showing off a monster double leg takedown this year. It looks as if Ramon is able to score anytime he wants. He is currently 16-4 on the year and has a good chance to make a trip to state this year.

1/6/02 to 1/13/02
Jose Gonzales - 130 - Freshman

Jose Gonzales has improved throughout the season. He hit the high point of his highschool career so far with a championship at the Grandview Winter Classic. He put in a dominating performance in the title match. Jose is 18-8 on the year with 7 pins. He is currently on an 8 match winning streak. He should give the Ki-Be fans plenty to yell about in the post-season.

12/29/01 to 1/6/02
Kevin Hunter - 275 - Junior

Kevin gave a good showing against a tough Andrew Morales of Grandview. Trailing in the third period, Kevin sucked it up and tied the score with an escape. He then showed wrestling smarts by rolling through on a head and arm attempt by Morales to flatten him with 40 seconds left in the match. Kevin is currently 7-10 on the year with 5 of his wins by pin.

12/22/01 to 12/28/01
Josh Corriell - 171 - Junior

Josh went 5-0 with 4 pins at the Best of the West, Team Dual tournament on the 21st and 22nd. He finished the week by taking 2nd place at the Royal Invite, losing by 1 point in the finals. Josh is 16-3 on the year and is on pace to record 20+ pins this year. Josh will be a strong medal contender this year at the State Mat Classic tournament in February.

12/15/01 to 12/21/01
Sergio Avila - 119 - Senior

Sergio won his 4th Ki-Be Invite title with a 13-2 victory over Aaron Koons of Ephrata. Sergio is currently 9-0 on the season with 3 pins. The Invite championship was his 13th career tournament championship moving him to within 2 of Garrett Knutson's 15 for 3rd on the all-time list. His 86 career wins places him 6th, 2 behind Joe Lanman. Sergio's longest career winning streak is 15 in 2000.

12/8/01 to 12/14/01
Josh Corke - 145 - Junior

Josh took first place at the Connell Invite for his third career tournament championship. For the week Josh was 4-0 with 2 pins and a major decision. Currently Josh is 6-0 and is showing why he should be considered as one of the top wrestlers in the state. Josh is on a mission to make it back to state this year after being knocked out at regionals last year.

12/1/01 to 12/7/01
Sean McCullough - 160 - Junior

Sean finished the first week of the season with his first career varsity victory. Sean trailed for most of the match, but in the end he was able to wear out his Connell opponent and turn him over for nearfall points and the win. McCullough was 0-11 as a freshman and sat out his sophomore season. It is good to see him get his first win. Sean is currently 1-1 on the season.
