Kiona-Benton vs. Hanford
The Bears have wrestled Hanford 17 times
and hold a 10-7 advantage in duals. Last season the Bears
defeated the Falcons for the 4th straight time, 49-21, and have
won 8 of the last 9 meetings.
Josh Corke will be aiming to become only the 4th Ki-Be wrestler
to win 100 career matches, he currently has 83. Josh Corriell
currently has 59 career wins and should move into the top 10 in
career wins for Ki-Be this year. Justin Rolland is a pinning
machine. Rolland stands second on the all-time pin% list, pinning
47.5% of his opponents (19 pins in 40 matches). Tony Chapin
pinned 47.2% of his opponents last season.
Brandon Ashley won 28 matches last season, the second highest
total for a freshman in Ki-Be history. His 5th place finish at
state as a freshman was bettered only by Nick Pell who took 3rd
as a freshman in 1997. Junior Gonzalez had the best ever freshman
showing at 130 pounds in school history. Junior ran off an
impressive string of 13 straight wins late last season on his way
to state.
Coach Hill and Coach Cunningham are ready to get the season
started. This could be one of the best years of wrestling for
Ki-Be since the glory years of 1997-99. During these three
seasons, the Bears qualified 20 wrestlers for state and won 11
medals. Among the medals were 3-1st, 2-2nd and 4-3rd. The Bears
of that era were led by Garrett and Travis Knutson, Ale DeLaPena
and Nick Pell. The Bears of this era are led by Josh Corke, Josh
Corriell, Brandon Ashley and Junior Gonzalez. Throw in impressive
showings by Justin Corke, Kevin Hunter, Tony Chapin, Justin
Rolland and Craig Nunamaker, and this Bears team could shine.
LETS GET IT ON!!!
