The Bears defeat the Falcons for the 6th time in the last 7 meetings. Three Bears wrestlers started their highschool careers on the winning side. Senior Jeff Slape ignited the crowd with a pin in less than a minute at 130. It's hard to tell what kind of wrestler Slape is going to be in just 58 seconds, but he did come out aggressively. Zac Clegg moves good for a heaveyweight and even takes a shot now and then. Clegg could be a force in the CWAC this year. Troy Cunningham is lightening quick. He may be giving up a little weight to the rest of the CWAC wrestlers, but he will not be out-quicked or out-techniqued.

The Bears seniors took care of business as Brandon Ashley took no prisoners with his first round pin. It is early in the season, but it looks like the rest of the CWAC should be worried about Ashley this year. Burns, Gonzalez and Phipps all pinned their opponents in dominating style. Burns seems to be a matured wrestler and could be a big time wrestler this year. Phipps continues to show steady progress and by the end of the year could be a state medal contender. Junior is still Junior. The only thing that could stop Junior is boredom as he rips through the competition.

Kyle Hagins and Tony Chapin gave it a great effort in their matches despite losing. Chapin took on a good wrestler in Mike Szendre and led in the early going. A little more conditioning and Chapin will dominate wrestlers like Szendre. Hagins gave a good showing against state veteran Kenny Pulsipher. Though the final score was 18-5, it could have been a much closer match than that. Hagins showed some aggressiveness that he did not have last season.
