Kiona-Benton vs. Naches

Naches got off to a quick start building a 24-7 lead over the Bears with 4 pins. The best match of the night was at 145 where Justin Hastings gave Junior Gonzalez a great challenge. Junior built an early 5-0 lead with a Td and tilted Hastings with an armbar. Hastings had a perfect game plan against Junior and he even countered Junior's patented pancake to score a Td and make the score 5-3 after two periods. Junior managed a Td in the third and escaped with a suprisingly tough 7-4 win. Hastings may have shown us the blueprint on how opponents will be wrestling Junior this year.

Tony Chapin started out his match the same as Junior with a Td and nearfall to lead 5-0. The match slowed down after that before Tony put it away with a Td and nearside cradle in the third and went on to win 11-1.

With the team score 24-7, the Bears needed a spark from someone. Jose Prado provided that spark. Prado came out aggressive and got the crowd into the match with a pin in the second round. Jose could be a key for the Bears duals at 215 this year.

Not much to say about Troy and Brandon since their matches lasted only 24 seconds combined. All I can say is that their opponents better be ready to wrestle from the whistle. Brandon doesn't even have 1 minute of dual wrestling under his belt this year, with a pin in 41sec and 13sec in the first two matches.

The Bears grabbed the lead 37-36 after a couple of forfeits and the dual came down to Ryan Burns and Drew Anderson. Burns came out energized and got the first Td, but Anderson did not allow any more scoring in the first period. Burns broke it open in the second with a Td and half nelson for a 7-0 lead. From there Ryan breezed to a 12-0 win and the Bears beat the Ranger for the 9th time in the last 10 duals.

The Bears have now won two close duals to start the season. Naches will be tough in duals this year and could be a force in the tournaments as well.
