JJ Garza is the only state veteran in this group and he has two state medals to his name taking 4th in 2004 and 5th in 2005. Garza should make another serious run at a state title this year. Currently JJ is ranked #2 in the state regardless of classification. Tyler Allen placed in the top 4 in many tournaments this year and took the championship at the Connell Invite. Andrew Miller took 2nd at the Cashmere Invite and should be a contender for a state spot. As of now it is hard to determine how the rest of the wrestlers in this weight class are going to fair.

North

This weightclass is stocked full of talent. I have been hearing the biggest praise for Jake Horn out of Ephrata. From the information available to me I count 3 tournament titles and 2 runner-ups for Horn this year. Horn has defeated nearly every 112lb'er in the CWAC. Horn should be something to watch this post-season. Stelter, Cunningham, Luczynski, Gutierrez and Reyes along with Horn make this one of the toughest weightclasses in the state. All have a great opportunity to advance to state and with 7 births, all of them may make it.
Troy will have his hands full as this is one of the toughest weightclasses in the state. He has split with Stelter on the year and has wrestled Horn as tough as anyone in the CWAC. Troy has an excellent chance of medaling in the state tournament this year and the competition in the CWAC should only prepare him for the grind of the State tournament.

Hopkins and Garza are the top wrestlers in this weightclass but Hernandez and Miller aren't far behind. Hopkins will probably be a state champ someday, maybe this year. Hopkins picked up 5 tourney titles this year and Garza collected two titles. Hernandez may be ready to take the next step into state this year while Andrew Miller is just arriving on the scene and should be a contender this year and for the next 3. BJ Bernard has stepped up his attack this year and could pull an upset along the way. Johanns missed his sophomore year, but could secure a state trip if he continues to wrestle aggressively.
Jake Johanns is as aggressive as they come. He is sometimes over aggressive and that often hurts him. If Jake can keep the controlled aggression going into the post-season and he keeps the mistakes to a minimum, he should be able to secure a state spot.

North
Top Four: 1) Henry Hernandez - Qui 2) Andrew Miller - Omak 3) Jeremy Belgarde - Omak 4) Jordan Rang - Eph |

Cantu won the title at the Leonard Schutte Invite and placed in the top 4 in a few others. Lindquist has won 3 tourney titles this year. Right now Cantu is #1, but since I have no information about them facing each other this year, the #1 spot is up for grabs this post-season. Cantu placed 4th at state last year while Lindquist placed 8th. Castaneda, Nelson and Wood are good wrestlers and could pull an upset if they wrestle their best.
South
Top Four: 1) Don Cantu - Oth 2) Ignacio Castaneda - Top 3) Kaelen Nelson - Grv 4) Wes Jenks - Con |
North
Top Four: 1) Gabe Lindquist -Qui 2) Tanner Wood - Cash 3) Gage Schmidt - Chel 4) Miles Hansen - Omak |

Eddie Bush has garnered a couple tourney titles this year and looks ready to move up in the medal standings at state this year. A top 4 placing should be within his grasp at state this year. Fernando Godinez has picked up his game this year with titles in the Hanford Winter Cup and Grandview Invite. Calvert, Pech and Hagins are all capable of winning the South District Title, while Evans and Somers will give Bush a challenge in the North.
Jesse Henderson will get some more much needed experience in the district tournament. Jesse has shown great improvement this year and he starts the district meet against an opponent from Connell that he pinned in the regular season. If Jesse sticks with it for two more years he will be a fine wrestler.
South
Top Four: 1) Fernando Godinez - Grv 2) Jack Calvert - Oth 3) Yuder Pech - Top 4) Kyle Hagins - KB |
North
Top Four: 1) Eddie Bush - Chel 2) Brent Evans - Cash 3) Dan Somers - Qui 4) Tony Louthan - Eph |

Drew Walter won at least 3 tourney titles this year and he looks like he is ready to join his brother as a state champion this year. Look for him to wrestle well into the championship bracket at state. Josh Mason is a freshman who should be worth watching for the next few years. Sifuentes looks good, just how good we will find out in the next few weeks. Max Saldana could give Sifeuntes a run for his money at district. Keep an eye on Tim Logozzo of East Valley.

Four Best bets to make state: Walter, Sifuentes, Saldana, Mason
Most likely to finish in top 4 at state: Walter |

Phillip Ontiveras and Dallas Hintz both could win state a state title this year. The problem is that they are in the same weightclass, so only one can win, if they can get by a couple of state champs who will also be in their weightclass at state. Siemears and Caryl are tops in the second tier of wrestlers and should have a good shot at making it to state. Senior Jason Fleming of Quincy is also worth watching. Fleming did collect two tourney titles this year.
South
Top Four: 1) Phillip Ontiveras - Oth 2) Shay Siemears - Grv 3) Jacob Dilley - NV 4) Jesse Schindler - EV |
North

Will Flores win another state title? Freddie took titles at the Sundome, Othello, Royal and PNW invites. He took second at the Hoquiam Invite losing to Justin Eastman of Rochester, another state champion. Adam Orozco is ready to flex his muscle in this weightclass and is not about to give the title to Flores without a fight. Todd Yeates of Quincy has put it all together this year and could be the surprise of the CWAC. He will have his hands full in the North District with Kilgore, Riggle and Sieverkropp.
Sam Landoe is another wrestler who has shown great improvement this year. Sam always wrestles tough and gives his best effort. That has translated into some wins this year and if he keeps it up, should translate into many more wins in the future.
South
Top Four: 1) Freddie Flores - Oth 2) Adam Orozco - Con 3) Michael Benevides - Grv 4) Ramon Rodriguez - Top |
North
Top Four: 1) Todd Yeates - Qui 2) Brandon Kilgore - Cash 3) Zach Riggle - Omak 4) Kevin Sieverkropp - Eph |

Zack Brissey will make a strong run at a state title this year and should be head and shoulders above the rest of the CWAC competition. Zack took titles at the Connell and Wapato Invites and a 2nd at the Sundome tourney. Brissey also defeated state champ Freddie Flores of Othello 7-1 early in the season. McGuffin of Chelan is a good wrestler and could give Brissey a good challenge. Sandoval of Cashmere and Kallstrom of Ephrata are also ones to watch. The South District title is up for grabs between Orozco, Valencia and Shafer.
Devon Hudspeth is another wrestler who gives his all in his matches. Devon will experience the excitment of the district tournament and give him some more much needed experience.

Parkins is ready to make a strong run at the state title this year and should not have much trouble making it through the CWAC and the Great Northern Leaguem competition. Jacob Robillard of Grandview and Ryan Cross of Ephrata should be the closest competitors to Parkins in the CWAC. Davey Anderson is a newcomer from Chelan that should be watched.
Aaron Fenton has been getting some wins late in the season and seems to be getting the hang of wrestling as he ends the first year of his career. Districts will be another opportunity for Aaron to learn the art of wrestling.
South
Top Four: 1) Jacob Robillard - Grv 2) Gabe Martinez - Con 3) Nick Durand - EV 4) Brandon Rose - EV |
North
Top Four: 1) Levi Parkins - Cash 2) Ryan Cross - Eph 3) Davey Anderson - Chel 4) Brian Swapp - Qui |

Collins and Newberry have split their meetings this year. Newberry pinned Collins for the Hoquiam Invite Title and Collins major decisioned Newberry in their team dual. Norberg defeated Collins 8-2 early in the year and lost 5-2 to Newberry later in the year. Harry is a very capable wrestler, so the North District should be very exciting this year. Rodriguez and Magana should make the South finals. Rodriguez pinned Magana in their team dual with 1 second remaining in the match.
South
Top Four: 1) Guillermo Rodriguez - Top 2) Tovias Magana - Grv 3) Tony Chester - Grv 4) Charlie Valdes - Oth |

Jakob Torgeson has exploded into the #1 spot at this weightclass. He placed 4th at the Sundome tournament and added a title at the Connell Invite. We will find out just how good Torgeson is in the post-season. Justin Davis is a first year highschool wrestler as a senior. Despite the 3 year layoff Justin seems to be hitting on all cylinders this year, keep an eye or two on him. Rodriguez and Johnston in the South should be a good matchup, watch Rankin from Connell as well.
Mike
Mejia returns just in time for Districts. He was able to
warm up with a couple wins at the Zillah All-Comers
tournament. Mejia is seeded 3rd into districts and could
make some heads turn. Though he has limited mat time this
year, Mike should be a force in the post-season. Daniel Westerfield is a work in progress. If he sticks to it for the next three years, he will be the one dealing out the punishment by the time he is a senior. |

Worley is could be on his way to a state title this year for the Cashmere Bulldogs. He is virtually untouchable in the CWAC, except for Green who gives him a battle everytime they wrestle. Worley and Green should provide some highlights in the North District tournament. Also watch Gervais in the North. Cuello has improved every year and should be ready to take the next step to state. Lopez has lost two close matches to Cuello (5-3, 3-1) and should make the South District a battle along with Jones and Ochoa.
South
Top Four: 1) Michael Cuello - Con 2) Heleodoro Lopez - Grv 3) Bryan Jones - NV 4) Rudy Ochoa - Oth |
North
Top Four: 1) Dan Worley - Cash 2) Darrick Green - Omak 3) Anthony Gervais - Chel 4) Blake Jensen - Eph |

Dustin Howard has risen to the top in the heavyweight division. His 4th place finish at the prestigious Sundome tournament stamped himself as the guy to beat in the CWAC. Logan Church placed 3rd at the Royal Christmas Tournament and took the title at the Cashmere Invite. Carmona placed 2nd at the Leonard Schutte Invite and also placed 5th at the Pacific Northwest Invite. These three wrestlers should dominate the field, but keep an eye on Freddie Magana of Grandview.
With only 7 wrestlers in this weightclass, Samsel has a great opportunity to advance to regionals and that would give him a great experience that could carry over into next year. Britt has improved greatly from his freshman year and continued improvement could put him in contention for a state trip in the next few years.
South
Top Four: 1) Dustin Howard - Top 2) Michael Carmona - Oth 3) Jake Stiles - NV 4) Freddie Magana - Grv |
