Bears Wrestler of the Week
2005-2006

Jesse Henderson - 130 - Sophomore
Week 6
Jesse is currently on a 4 match win streak. At Hoquaim, Jesse went 0-2 on the first day of wrestling and was then placed into the JV tournament. In the JV tournament Jesse won all three of his matches to take first place. In the following dual meet with Connell, Jesse wrestled tough from the opening whistle and trailed only 2-0 after one round. In the second round Jesse got busy and in a scramble, put his Connell opponent on his back for a pin, for his 4th win in a row.

Jake Johanns - 119 - Junior
Week 5
Jake placed 4th at the prestigious Royal City Christmas tourney this past week. Jake is an aggressive wrestler who is going to make some noise come post-season time. Despite missing his Sophomore season, Jake is starting to turn heads in the CWAC with his lightning quick aggressive style. With Cunningham at 112 and Jake at 119, the Bears have a good 1-2 punch in the lightweights.

Sam Landoe - 145 - Sophomore
Week 4
Sam is a much improved wrestler this year. With each match Sam seems to be getting more and more comfortable with the sport of wrestling. In narrowly losing an 11-10 decision to a Toppenish wrestler, Sam wrestled one of the hardest fought matches of the year for the Bears. If Sam can muster up that kind of effort everytime he steps on the mat, he will begin to pick up some big wins.

Troy Cunningham - 112 - Sophomore
Week 3
Troy had a great two days at the Best of the West tournament in Pasco. Troy won all 3 dual matches, 2 by pin and one forfeit. Troy also won an exhibition match to run his two day total to 4-0 with 3 pins. Troy is currentley 9-1 with 6 pins on the year and should be a strong medal contender at state this year.

Britt Samsell - 215/275 - Sophomore
Week 2
Britt is a more aggressive and confident wrestler this year and that should help him compete with many of the CWAC 215 lbers. Against East Valley's Senior 215, Tom Martin, Britt recorded a 35 second pin. The Bears need Britt to hold down the 215/275 pound spot and give them a chance to win some dual meets, he has the potential to do just that.

Mike Mejia - 189 - Senior
Week 1
After a 3 year layoff, Mike Mejia started his Higschool wrestling career as a first year senior. Things did not go well in his first match against Hanford's Cody Bradshaw, who placed 4th at state last year, as Mike got pinned. Mejia responded by recording a pin in his next match against Naches Valley and then took a strong third place at the Connell Invite. Mike Mejia should see many more victories this year.
