SCAC East District

Team Results - 1, Royal; 2, Warden; 3, Kiona-Benton; 4, Connell; 5, River View; 6, Columbia (Burbank); 7, Wahluke

Troy Cunningham won his second district title and led the Bears to a good showing at the SCAC East tournament. In all 9 Bears will advance to regionals next week in Royal City. Troy wrestled only two matches winning 15-0 and pinning his championship opponent.

Kyle Hagins showed lots of heart and determination against Wes Jenks of Connell. After falling in an early hole against Jenks, 4-0, Hagins came on strong and dominated the last half of the match. Jenks could be in trouble next week when the two should meet again.

Johanns wrestled well against Omar Avelar of Royal in his championship match. He matched Avelar in the early going, but Avelar pulled away in the third round. Johanns is capable of learning from a loss like this, just ask Eric Valdez of Wahluke. Johanns defeated him 11-9 in the semi-finals.

Campbell and Farias both came through the 125 weightclass to face each other in the 3rd place match. Campbell pinned Farias to take third. Both should be a factor at regionals next week.

Henderson and Hagins both qualified at 135. Henderson wrestled great in his 3rd place match until he gave up back points late in the match and wound up on the short end of a 4-10 score. But a trip to regionals was well earned by Jesse.

Sam Landoe received an injury default to claim third place. Earlier in the day Landoe recorded a pin to ensure his advancement to next weekend.

Samsel avenged an early season loss to Drew Jesse with a determined 7-6 victory. Britt seems to be stepping it up in the post-season. He should make a good run at a state birth next weekend.

Travis Roos picked a good time to claim his highest tournament finish of the season by taking 4th at 103.

If all of these wrestlers can come through at regionals next weekend it would be a record for the Bears. The most wrestlers ever taken to state by the Bears is 7. Wouldn't it be great to tak 9 wrestlers to state!!!
