SCAC Regionals

The Bears will be sending 7 wrestlers to state. 5 of those wrestlers placed in the top 5 at SCAC Regionals and 2, Delene Rucker and Sheridan McDonald, placed 1st at the region III girls tournament.

For the boys, Troy Cunningham took first and had to work through a painful ankle injury. Despite the pain in his ankle, Troy built a 5-1 lead on his title opponent, Chance Watt of Riverview, before pinning him in the third round. It was a gutsy performance from a first class wrestler. Ankle injury or not, Troy will be ready to defend his title.

Joining Troy at state will be freshman Evan Olinger, Sam Landoe, Jesse Henderson and Britt Samsel. Devon Hudspeth and Tony Lopez each ost two hard fought matches.

Sam will be making his second appearance and will not be in awe of the atmosphere this time around. Britt and Jesse will be experiencing the atmoshpere for the first time. If they all bring their "A" game, they could do some damage. Evan is going as a freshman and, along with Sheridan McDonald, is the future of Ki-Be wrestling, but he could also bring home some hardware from Tacoma this year.

Sheridan and Delene have legitimate shots at the title after placing 1st in their regional tournament. They're not just good girl wrestlers, they are good wrestlers period. They should be exciting to watch in Tacoma.

The 7 Bears going to state ties the Ki-Be record for most wrestlers to state in a single season. These guys, and gals, should be fun to watch at state next weekend.
