In 1954 Perry L. Blackshear of Atlanta published a book entitled "Blacksheariana." The book took him about six years to prepare, and contained all he could find about the Blackshears in America, and their ancestors. He managed to trace the family back to about 1505 in Chester, England, where they were known as Blackeshawe. Perry had only 300 copies of the book printed. Today, many have been lost, but over 30 copies reside in library genealogy collections, where they are well worn from many fingers. Those who are lucky enough to own a copy consider it a family heirloom. My grandmother was Rosa Belle Blacksher, and my aunt, Laura Trawick, contributed to Perry's book. Her copy of the book is now in my possession. A couple of years ago, I temporarily lost my sanity and decided to update the book. I contacted Perry's daughter in Atlanta, and she graciously gave me permission to do this. Bob Blackshear of Warner Robbins, Georgia put the original text into a word processor, and inserted his own findings. I then took his work and included what I had that was not in the original text. Then I sent letters out to all the Blackshears, Blackshares, Blacksheres, Blackshers, Blackshires, etc. in a national phone book, soliciting submittals. Quite a few people responded. I made contact with many more researchers via the web. Now with this website, I'd like to contact more folks who have some Blackshear blood, whether it is from a female or male. If you have any information on any Blackshear descendants, please contact me. And, if you want to reserve a copy of the book for yourself, let me know. Hope to hear from you, and thanks for wading through this story! Joe Melton Evening Phone: 719.473.6785
