One of the most gratifying things I have ever done was to adopt a retired racing Greyhound. Actually I have adopted 2. My first was named Belle, she's in the first picture, and the second picture is Casey. Her track name was Grey's Casino, but she was mine, and she was going to be my pet. So Casey was the name that fit. I only used the name Casino when she did something wrong, which wasn't very often.

I only had Belle for about 8 months, then she passed away one evening while I was out. My vet never figured out what happened. It was very sad day at my house, but about a week later I decided that I couldn't be sad any longer, that she was in a good place. What I needed to do was do the whole adoption thing over again, and that is where Casey entered into the picture. I had met her a couple weeks earlier in Abeline, KS. She had broken her leg and was mending when we first met. I called a very nice lady named Pat Lewallen who was in charge of REGAP here in Kansas City at the time, and she found out that Casey was still available. I immediately told Pat not to let anyone else have her.

This photo is a picture of me with Casey, not long after she came to live with me.

Some greyhounds like to have soft toys to cuddle with. Casey did once in a while, but it wasn't a common thing for her to do.
