Waiting for spring

Pooh's thoughtful spot:the gazebo has become a favourite spot of ours. We have tea and coffee in there. Sometimes we have a sleepy time tea and look out at the moon. The pond is right in front of us so we can watch the fountain we have installed. Klaus is hooking up an underwater light to shine up into the fountain.

Klaus had a time with roofing the gazebo. One day he came to the door covered everywhere in roofing tar and asked, "Do you have any turpentine" and I answered, "No, but Stephanie has some nail polish remover". What had happened, he lost grip of the tar can and it fell down onto the newly constructed gazebo and walkway. Not too much got on the body of the gazebo. Mostly just all over the roof area that needed it anyway. You really can't remove tar from bricks. Luckily we had some left over bricks from the border bricks, so Klaus replaced them. The other badly tarred ones were put between the ground and the bottom of the gazebo. We hope then that not too many naughty critters can get under there.

All the plants did well here but I don't know what will come back next spring. We shall have to wait and see. If I want ferns to grow there I will have to water more. I definitely have to plant some kind of vines again on the west side. It was really nice for shade in the hot summer afternoons.

My perennial border:Was really a disappointment as the plants I picked didn't really put on much of a show. They never really took off. They stayed on the small side, I guess not enough sun. I will see what next season brings. I planted some mini roses and at this time they are still blooming. I really hope they survive our winter. I hope the clematis will start taking off next spring. They did well even being roughly treated and newly transplanted. The alyssum did really well and that is about the only place my lobelia 'Crystal Palace' put on a good show.

Fragrant walk: Benjamin's Place: Continued on into the fall ending up with Buddleia blooming and sending off fragrance in the fall.

Piglets corner: was a riot of coleus in all different colours. I hope to grow them again next summer. I will try and start some this spring for planting out. I want to get some pictures of this corner next year. The construction was always in the way for long shots and my good camera that I used to take close ups with no longer works. I need a new camera.

Welcome to my garden:Grew quite a bit this year. Klaus put in the "scallop potatoes" right from here all the way along to the gazebo. They unify the different plots and look so crisp.

Camelot garden : Is still a question mark for me. I don't think the delphiniums would do well there. I am thinking of a coleus border. We might just scrap the whole idea. I have put delphiniums in Eeyores Special Place and on one side of the pond. There I have also put ton o new perennials will put up a list after I finish planting.

Welcome to my front door:It is very bare now with a fall wreath on the front door and the pine cones in the black Alphons planter. I wish I could think of something alive to put there but the winters are too cold in Toronto for that.

So along with all of the gardeners in Canada and the northern part of the United States my attention has gone indoors where I am tending the coleus mothers and cuttings. I have two freshly planted terrariums and various other house plants.

So, off to dream of what to plant and do with the garden next spring. I got my Stokes 1999 catalogue today......will stop typing now and go look. I hope you enjoyed my pages and visit again .
