A heavy smoker, he collapsed during a go on a treadmill. He was only 60 and recently retired from the new Frontier. We started at Frontier in '67. I was a month after him. Hal was known as "Hal The Pal" he will be missed. -Billy Walker (4/19/99) Hal's first flight with Frontier was as F/O on 6/11/67. He remaind with the company until it's 'demise' in August, 1986. He flew with Continental until returning to the "new" Frontier Airlines in 1994. His final flight for Frontier (forced out by the FAA 'age 60' rule) was on July 20, 1998 when he flew from SEA to DEN on a/c #306, a 737-300, arriving to a colorful water cannon salute. I was priviledged to be on board for his last trip. -J.A. Shelburne, Ogden, Utah (11/24/99) ...just a person in the mix of the new Frontier, making history again; a much different time now. I wish I could have been around when the old Frontier was in operation. I grew up in Southern California, and moved to Boulder in 1990. My dad actually went to high school in Calif with Vern Carlson - Pilot of the old Frontier. He lives in Boulder, and is a big runner. Running all the time. Nice fella. I also had the opportunity to fly with Hal Osborn and John Landwehr in the late 1990s. Great guys. - Kent Katnik (11/17/09) Hal died in 1999 of a heart attack - less than a year after retirement from F9.
