My Letters To Tammy

Several of you have written in, giving friendly advice of caution, or otherwise asking about having The Perilous Times removed from cyberspace. Let me assure you that I have not instigated a war with Ms. Ritchie. Oddly enough, it seems that I'm the one Wiccan she won't attack personally; I have contacted her, but not given her any ammunition to back up her claims!

Here, in full, are email letters I personally mailed to Ms. Ritchie months ago. Rest easy, friends, Lil' Lorna is not getting into any trouble!

Email to Tammy Ritchie on September 24, 1998:

Dear Ma'am,
May I first start off by saying that you do sound like quite intelligent of a person, and good of heart in your intentions! I commend you for loving Jesus and having such conviction in your spirituality. It is not everyone who believes so strongly in their faith and has such compassion for the rest of the world. However, I do feel that once I tell you I am a witch, you will cast me off as evil. I do sincerely hope that you will hear the love in my heart and kindly reads what I have to say. Maybe you would even post this letter on your site as an example of a "good" letter from a Pagan?

Just as not every Christian or Catholic is so devout or well behaved, neither are all Pagans. I am deeply sorry for some of the mail you have recieved from Pagans, or rather "so-called" Pagans. You should, however, expect that from people. After reading some of that mail, if I did not know what I do of my own religion, I would have a bad picture in my mind of Pagans, too. They are hurt and angry that your site is blatantly speaking out against what they believe, or claim to believe in. But lashing out at you like that is in poor character.

I would like to point out to you in fairness that I have NEVER seen a Pagan website that speaks out against Christianity or any other religion. Also, Wicca is a more defined term. In Wicca, the rede is "An it Harm Ye None, Do what Thou Wilt." The key words being "no harm", to yourself or anyone else. I realize that the newer Neo Pagan movement is not completely of the old ways. Wicca IS the new age of Paganism. It is a way of life to live a better. more peaceful and meaningful existence.

You said on your website that "Hell is your Choice." I do not claim that my path is the right one for everyone. But if yours is the "right one", than I believe Jesus will forgive me, Witch or not. Because I love life and people, and do my best to be the best person I can be. And if we are both calling upon the same omniscent being, we are both right, so long as we believe in the choices we make.

Bright Blessings to you, and everyone visiting your site! I sincerely hope that someday you can accept that my faith is not "evil." A religion is not evil on it's own; it is the person practicing it that personifies it.

Email To Tammy Ritchie on November 10th, 1998:

Dear Ms. Ritchie,
I sent you a letter a couple months ago; I never heard anything back from you. I wanted to show you that despite the hurtful things you say about my religion, because that's why your Bible tells you and what you feel in your heart, that I respect that, and I'm still a good person.

In response to your site, and the fact that you seem to lack the courage to acknowledge someone that contradicts your statements, I have started up a new website of my own. I am following Fair Use to a "T". I realize I could start up something bad between us, but that is not my intent. My intent is simply to give fair rebuttle for Pagans and Witches against the hateful things you spout about us. In a FAIR manner, to ALL religions. You see, I will not put down your faith, even though I don't believe in it. I invite anyone to visit my site, to see the harm we do one another, and try to correct it. I'm not trying to silence anyone, including you. But a lot of us are tired of being treated poorly because of how people like you view us; all because we don't believe what you believe religiously.

NOTE: Ms. Ritchie, webmistress of the Perilous Times, has never to this day responded to either letter or contacted me at any time.
