Notes for DUNCAN MCKAY:
From his father's (Archibald McKay's) 1804 will, Duncan received 50 acres of land at the head of the white pond joining Angus McAllester's line and 50 acres more above the heifer pond likewise joining McAllesters running across the wagon road, also his great coat and brown suit of clothes.

Notes for ARCHIBALD MCKAY:
When Archibald's father, Archibald McKay, wrote his will in 1804, the younger Archibald was under 21.  His father gave him, in the will, his mother's half of the plantation after her death.

Archibald and Flora joined the Harmony Presbyterian Church in 1813.

8.  FLORA ANN3 MCKAY (ARCHIBALD2, ARCHIBALD1) was born 12 February 1819 in Richmond Co, NC8,9, and died 08 January 1894 in Richmond Co, NC10.  She married JOHN L. MCRAE Abt. 1835 in Richmond Co, NC.

On 1850 Richmond Co, NC census, Fairground District, pg. 306, dwelling 843 -844, John McRey (sic),
age 40 is shown as a farmer, born in NC, with wife Flora, age 31, and children:  Jane 6 and Daniel 3.
Living next to them is Catherine McRey age 60 with Malcom 23, Margaret 28, Christian 26 and John 22.
Is this Catherine related to John???

Mt. Carmel Presbyterian Church is on the Montgomery County line, near County Line Road SR 1153 and
Clayton Carriker Road, SR 1317.  The graves of John and Flora McRae are near the old white church in the back, to the right of the right front door, about the fourth row from the church.  There is also a grave for Amelia H. McRae, born 3 Nov 1834, d 10 Aug 1857.  

John L. McRae was a Deacon, elected 1859, at Mr. Carmel Presbyterian Church

Notes for WILLIAM CAREY NICHOLSON:
W. C. Nicholson was a Private in the Civil War,, Company K, 33rd Regiment NC Infantry (record at National Archives, M-270, Roll #383.)  Entered service July 1, 1862, at age 20 from Richmond Co, NC.  He was "wounded at the wilderness" in the early months of 1864.  He was absent from May thru August 1864 musters because he was at a hospital.  He was absent for Sept/Oct 1864 muster as he was home wounded with leave.  He was at the hospital again for the January, 1865, muster.  Part of this information
also listed in Moore's Roster, Vol. 2, pg 638 at NCSA.

Per Joe McLaurin of Richmond Co. Descendants, William and Jane Nicholson helped found the
Roberdel Baptist Church.

shows Goodman, James A. age 35, Sallie J. age 31, and children:  Maggie 13, Mary J. 9, Lawrence 7,
Alpha 5, Annie 3; and Sarah Nicholson age 71 as a boarder (Sallie Jane's father, Wm. Carey, had a sister named Sarah who was born in 1829 -- this may be the same Sarah.  She would be Sallie Jane's aunt).  James worked in a cotton mill and owned his own home.

James Alfred (Dob) was a Methodist and taught Sunday School at a frame church in Roberdel.  
Dob was a Mason.  R. W. Goodman, Jr. has his Mason's apron, framed.

Dob's wife died and he raised the children, he never remarried.  He loved to cook for people.  He was a small man and worked in a mill in Roberdel.  He lived across from the old Baptist Church.  The
Meachum's bought his home.  It is still standing.  (Per Libby Smith, 11/92)
