First off I should open by explaining just why I am publishing this page and its purpose. My name is Will, a veteran of two tours of duty in the Republic of Vietnam. I served with USNMCB 62 at Dong Ha in '69 and Chou Doc in '70. I flew our country's flag proudly then as I still do today. At present I am rated as a 100% disabled veteran due to cancer that was linked to exposure to Agent Orange, something that I never thought the government would ever take responsibility for. My way of thinking was brought about by talking with other vets who had had bad dealings with the VA and from reading all the disclaimers the government had made to the press. This is the perception a lot of veterans have....that the Government and the VA, as a whole, have no intention of helping America's Veterans. Even the Veterans from all other wars have always been angered by the way that they have been treated by the VA in the past. Things seem to be changing in our government, and the VA is starting to try to take care of the veterans the way they should have been doing all along. With the help of the VA representative in Topeka, Kansas and DAV personnel in Wichita, my claim was pushed through much faster than I ever could have expected. A DAV officer hand-carried my claim part of the way through so it wasn't lost in the maze of paperwork that the VA has to contend with every day. I would like to offer a special "Thank You" to Don Hibler, the Kansas Veterans Affairs Representative in Topeka, and to Kim Crissler, the National Service Officer of the Disabled American Veterans in Wichita. It is time for all veterans to unite and work together so that we are heard by the VA and our Government officials. The Government has made progress in taking care of its veterans; let's not allow even one step to be taken backwards concerning the veterans that have defended our freedoms and this great nation in the past, present and those who will defend them in the future.
