Commisioned as 'Windward' but renamed 'Windward ll' due to
the existence of a yacht by the name of 'Windward' on Sydney
Harbour, which was to become her new home until 1994, when
she was sailed by her current owner/skipper, Lindsay Truman,
to Manly Harbour in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.
Built by Percy Coverdale in Hobart in 1928/29 and
designed by Norman E Dalymore, Windward II is strongly
constructed of Huon Pine on Spotted Gum Frames. She
features a Pitched and Caulked Celery Top Pine Deck, Teak
Coamings and Oregon Spars.
She was commissioned by E H Webster who failed to take
possession of her after completion due to the Great
Depression and was purchased soon after by James M
Hardie, who was to go on to become Commodore of the
Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron. Originally rigged as a
Schooner she was converted to a Cutter Rigged Sloop in
the mid 70’s. She remained in his possession until the mid
seventies, changed hands thereafter a couple of times and
was partially restored until purchased by Lindsay Truman,
the current owner/skipper, when her restoration was
completed in 1995.
Her sailing season included the following honours:
1931/32- Fairfax Cup, 1932/33- Fairfax Cup, 1933/34-
Fairfax Cup and Gascoigne Cup, 1934/35-Fairfax Cup,
1936/37- Reyonah Cup, 1948/49-Fairfax Cup and Norn
Cup.
