Thor V
Antwerp and Kingdom Lands, October 16, 1999
The day dawned bright and sunny, and the weather remained beautiful throughout the whole event. Autumn leaves just beginning to turn orange, crimson and gold cast a festive look over the field of Antwerp while the warriors of Uberheim sought to prove their worth in a rankings tourney. All of the fighters fought with skill and bravery, but the highest honors went to the Valkyrie Rossweiss (3rd), Warlord Rudiger (2nd), and Thor, God of Thunder (1st).
Away from the clamor and furious activity on the list field, other members of the Kingdom engaged in Arts and Sciences activities. Lord Stellerex read cards for those wishing to divine what the Norns had in store for them. Meanwhile, the Norns themselves (Lady Skuld and Urd) looked on indulgently while calmly sewing Kingdom tabards with the Queen and other ladies.
As the shadows lengthened, the colder evening air and the end of the fighting activities caused the King to call for camp to be struck. This was quickly and efficiently done, and the party withdrew to the feast hall Ming Yung. There a space age lurk was run upon all manner of Ubersnacks, with the King and Hagen in deep competition over the platter of crab legs! When all were sated, the outlurk to Kingdom lands began.
Court was held over the Well of Mimir. The light of the waxing moon turned the misty Rhine into an enchanted realm as Siegfried expressed his pleasure in the day's successes. He then announced the special ceremonies that were to take place that night. Good Hagen, who once gave up his Knight's belt in protest of the corruption of the Kingdom's members, was to receive Knighthood again. Also, Thor, long the de facto Regent, was to have his coronation as Crown Prince. The Chivalry then escorted Hagen to his Solemn Vigil at the base of Yggdrasil.
His lady Skuld, the King and Queen, and the Knights visited Hagen while he sat in contemplation of the honor he was about to take again unto himself. Those not involved in the vigil waited in the field for the final ceremony to begin, and discussed mundane issues including the possibility of a New Year's Eve party.
When all was ready, the group assembled at the Well of Mimir. King Siegfried and Queen Hella, Thor, Rossweiss, Saga, Baldr, Sir Fafnir, Warlord Rudiger, and the Squire Uller waited in the icy waters of the sacred cavern to witness the ceremony (with the Lady Syn diligently wielding the Space Age recording device!) First Siegfried called upon Thor. As the God of Thunder knelt before him, the High King spoke earnestly of Thor's service to the realm. Siegfried then laid the awesome responsibility of the upkeep of the realm upon him. Thor was thus formally recognized as heir and regent to the throne of Uberheim. Siegfried then placed the jeweled crown upon the god's head, and bade him rise, Sir Thor, Crown Prince of Uberheim.
When the cheers for the Crown Prince had died away, King Siegfried called forth Hagen. Hagen knelt before his liege, and the King spoke at length about him. He recalled how Hagen had been with the Kingdom from its inception, always at the King's side through both the brightest and the darkest days. How Hagen's loyalty and service had never been in question, and how he was indeed the embodiment of the Chivalric Ideal. King Siegfried then called forth Sir Fafnir and Rudiger to help present Hagen with his spurs, chain, and purple belt.
The King then laid a blistering collee upon Hagen, and reminded him that it was to be the last blow he received unanswered. Whereupon Hagen received the accolade from the mighty sword Balmung, and in turn eloquently swore his eternal fealty to the Realm and to Siegfried upon it.
The cheers and approbation of the crowd then rang out as Sir Hagen was bid to rise and be greeted by his fellows, Baldr, God of Chivalry, and the rest of the realm!
After the ceremony, the mood turned gleeful. Siegfried and Heimdall stripped to their undergarments and jumped into the Rhine, closely followed by a very naked Grond! The party talked excitedly about future events, and gradually began to prepare to outlurk. Some went home, some to Muggs or other mundane occupations, but it is this chronicler’s opinion that all left feeling very satisfied indeed!
