But it doesn't seem that long Since you were called to Heaven To sing our Father's song. We all still miss you very much And continue to hold your memory near By recalling cherished memories That made you oh so dear. Our memories of our childhood Are wonderful indeed! For you were always there for us No matter what our need. You took the time to be with us And shared in games we played I think our all time favorite Had to be "Old Maid"!!! You made sure that you taught us In your own special way Life's many hard lessons To prepare us come what may. You taught us the importance of laughter And the ability to share You taught us not to be afraid of life And you taught us how to care. You hiding under a sheet Is your prank I remember most. Then peeking in a window Pretending to be a ghost!! Your closet trick was a classic!! How you loved to try and scare us By hiding in there all alone And making one big fuss!! You'd only fool us once But you'd still do it anyway You had more than one reason For the tricks you loved to play. You were showing by example The truth about unfounded fear. Don't be afraid of the darkness For it is not as it may appear. You were never one to spank us No matter what we'd do You'd just threaten to use "the wire" And never follow through. That swatter was your only hope To try and make us mind For you never, ever yelled at us For you were much too kind. From you we learned the importance Of a calm and gentle voice. You taught us to be honest And we'd always have a choice. You were never one for lots of words To say what was in your heart But we always knew you loved us And it couldn't be torn apart. No, you couldn't say "I love you" But you were never smug When we'd tell you that we loved you You'd come back with an "Ugh". Oh how we miss you, Dad!! You were taken much too fast! All we have are memories And we will make them last. You are with the Lord now And in His loving embrace Just know we love you dearly And no one can take your place We will see you again one day And what a glorious thing it will be To feel your loving arms again This time for eternity!!!! All our love Your children, Nancy, Donna, and Rick In loving memory of my father who passed away April 15, 1989. We miss you, dad! (Ughie!) |
