Raistlin Majere

FROM:The book series and RPG, published by the wonderous TSR, copyright 1984-1998 (yup, they're still writin' 'em).

DESCRIPTION: Raistlin is medium height, with longish white hair, golden skin, and golden eyes with hourglass shaped pupils.
He's currently a mage of the Black Robes, but has worn both the Red and White Robes.
Due to his Test (see Raistlin's History for the story), Raist is constantly in poor health, and must continually drink his special tea to keep up his strength. He was always frail, since he was born, and has grown accustomed to it.
In spite of his fraility, however, Raist is the Master of Past and Present, and is the strongest mage ever to walk Krynn.
Raist pretends to be very bad, and likes to think that he doesn't care about anything except power. This, however, is pure crap. Raistlin Majere loves his twin brother Caramon, and has a bit of a crush on a certain cleric of Paladine......(That would be Crysania, if you haven't read the Legends trilogy).
Also, since he was teased as a child for being small and weak, Raist holds a fondness for lesser creatures (i.e. Bupu), even as he tries to get more power.

HISTORY: Since Raist's history is so long, it gets its own page! See Raistlin's History for the full story!

MEMORABLE QUOTES:

  • "If you think you'd enjoy it, Master Burrfoot, perhaps I'll ask Her Dark Majesty to rip your guts out" (DoSF, 342). To Tas, who wanted to see Takhisis rip out Raist's guts (he'd heard that Raist was tortured in the Abyss, and wanted to see firsthand; there was no malicious intent toward Raistlin).

  • "I have sinned enough against the world. Teaching magic to a kender would ensure my damnation" (DoSF, 357). Tas wanted to learn a spell.

  • "My return was unintended, I assure you" (DoSF, 361). After he was forced to return to Krynn to save Palin's life.

  • "I made love to a beautiful woman and I didn't know it. Just my luck" (DoSF, 363). Upon hearing the story of Raistlin's Daughter and how she was conceived.

  • "Caramon. Caramon, can you . . . can you . . . forgive . . .?" (DoSF, 373). To Caramon, when he returned to the Inn after leaving the Abyss.

  • "Some white paint on my face and hands, a bit of charcoal dust and some of Tika's pistachio nut paste under the eyes, a handful of flash powder, and - behold! The Dead Wizard from the Abyss" (DoSF, 388). To Caramon, after they scared away the Grey Robes who were planning to attack the Tower of Wayreth.

  • "You are no child of mine" (DoSF, 399). To Usha, when he first meets her. He's not fooled for a second.

  • "I wanted to tell [Crysania] that sometimes, in my long sleep, I dreamt of her" (DoSF, 454). To Astinus, who asked why Raistlin wanted to see Crysania.

  • "Probably sitting in my brother's kitchen, making gold coins come out my nose for the enjoyment of little children" (DoSF, 554). To Dougan Redhammer, who asked where Raist would be if he had counted love a strength.

  • "How certain is one of anything, Half-Elven? I am not certain of drawing my next breath . . . Death is life's one great certainty" (DoAT, 104). To Tanis, who asked if Raist was certain they were looking at Darken Wood (they were).

  • "Yes, I am smarter than you - all of you. And someday I will prove it. Someday you - with all your strength and charm and good looks - you - all of you, will call me master!" (DoAT, 129). To Tanis, who made the mistake of saying that Raist was the smartest of the Companions, and got him started on the tirade. Of course, Raistlin refers to him being the Master of Past and Present.

  • "Bupu, you have been a good and true friend to me. You have saved my life, and the lives of those I care about. Now you will do one last thing for me, little one. Go back. I must travel roads that will be dark and dangerous before the end of my long journey. I cannot ask you to go with me" (DoAT, 265). To Bupu, who wanted to go with him when the Companions left Xak Tsaroth.

  • "Yes. Solace is burning" (DoAT, 266). To the Companions; they could see the flames from Xak Tsaroth.
  • "[Flint:]'More spooks. Send the mage in first, so he can warn them we're coming.'
[Raistlin:]'Throw the dwarf in. They are accustomed to living in dark, dank caves.'" (DoAT, 354). Outside the Sla-mori, Kith-Kanan's tomb.

Note: There's only two books worth of quotes up right now. I'll have the rest up later, probably on a separate page. Stay tuned!

WHY KRISTEN LIKES HIM: I'll start with the words of the great White Robe (I think) Justarius, who said this to Par-Salian, who relaid it to Caramon, who published it in Leaves from the Inn of the Last Home, on page 137: "We've all been laughed at one time in our lives. We've all been jealous of someone. We have all felt pain and suffering, just as he [Raistlin] has suffered. And we've all longed - just once - for the power to crush our enemies. We pity him. We hate him. We fear him - all because there is a little of him in all of us, though we admit it to ourselves only in the darkest part of the night." This pretty much sums up why I like Raist. There really isn't too much else to say, and I had writer's block right now, so I'm not going to say anything else.
