Herbert King Lamkins Herbert King Lamkins, 88, formerly of Malvern, died Thursday, Sept. 27, 2007 at Hudson Nursing Home in El Dorado. Herbert was born July 14, 1919, in Newport to William Joseph Lamkins and Nancy Elizabeth Brown Lamkins. After serving in World War II, he lived in Malvern, working for Acme Brick Company, the Malvern Fire Department and the Malvern Police Department. He subsequently moved to El Dorado and he retired from Wheeling Pipeline after working as a truck driver for 27 years. In World War II he served in the10th Armored Division 3rd Army in Europe, including the Battle of the Bulge, where he received three bronze stars. He also volunteered as a VA driver and was a member of the Truckers Teamsters Union as well as a member of College Avenue Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Link and Richard Lamkins; three brothers and two sisters. Survivors include his wife, Melba G. Lamkins; two sons, Jake Lamkins of Fayetteville and Steve Lamkins of Cordova, Tenn.; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
