Ads on Fruit???

Stan Freberg here. Have you noticed these little bitty ads on various fruit? Since when is a banana a billboard? Excuse me? [:60 SPOT BREAK]

Freberg again. We're subjected to at least 3000 as messages a day from television and radio. Fine. A radio station needs ads to stay in business, but as a consumer I thought my fruit was commercial-free. Wrong.

A while back, I noticed there was something on my apple, and I don't mean my computer. It was a tiny sticker plugging the Jim Carrey movie, "Liar Liar." And later, stuck on my banana was "Got Milk?" Now my new banana reads, "Another fine use of yellow. ABC Television."

The ads are the brainchild of a company called "The Fruit Label Company" in Santa Monica. I spoke to Irv Winehouse there, who says he hasn't even started. Hmm. And just when you thought it was safe to go back into the produce section.

I tried to talk him out of these ubiquitous ads, but it was fruitile.
