Missing Parts (Part One)
“Where the hell are we, Mulder?”
“Um...Don’t you have the map?”
“No. You said you knew where we were going. And now we’re lost, in the middle of nowhere, in a blizzard.”
Mulder and Scully had been asked to autopsy a policeman that had green markings on his body. After the autopsy (which was a waste, the policeman got shot and landed in wet paint), Mulder and Scully headed back to their hotel. Scully was sure they had to go east, but Mulder insisted on going west. And now they were lost.
“Scully, look!”, Mulder said, after they were driving for almost an hour, “It’s a cabin.”
“Let’s go. Maybe someone inside can help us.”
“I’m not asking for directions.”
“You’re a typical man. I’ll ask, but you’re coming.”
Mulder and Scully approached the door to the cabin and knocked. No answer. They stepped inside, the door was unlocked. There was a fireplace and a couch in the livingroom. Scully went to explore. There was a hallway leading to a kitchen, bathroom and a single bedroom.
“We can stay here for tonight, I don’t think anyone lives here. But there’s only one bed, Mulder.”
“So...I’ll sleep on the couch.”
“Don’t be silly. I’ll sleep on the couch.”
“No, Scully. You had a long day. You need that bed.”
“Mulder, you had a long day, too. You take the bed.”
They argued a little longer when Mulder blurted out, “We can share the bed!” Scully suddenly felt uncomfortable.
“Mulder, are you drunk? Because I didn’t see you drinking.”
“You have one side, I’ll have the other.”
“Oh, fine.”
Mulder went to use the bathroom. Scully went to boil water and find tea bags. She found hot chocolate powder. Good enough. She made the hot cocoa and by the time she was done, Mulder had come out of the bathroom. She handed him a cup of hot cocoa.
“Where’s the marshmallows?”
“Very funny. Be happy that I found this.”
Mulder started a fire and they sat on the couch, sipping their cocoa.
“What a waste of a day, huh, Scully?”
“Yeah. Sent to autopsy a body for suspicious green marks. Turns out to be green paint. What kind of idiots run this town? Now we’re stuck in the middle of nowhere, in a cabin, in the middle of a blizzard. At least we’re not alone, Mulder.” She smiled weakly and tiredly at him.
“There’s something I must tell you. Being here with you makes me feel...”
Suddenly a crash and a bang came from the kitchen. Mulder and Scully jumped.
“My god”, said Scully, “what’s in the kitchen?”
“Only one way to find out.”
Mulder and Scully walked into the kitchen, armed. All that commotion and it turned out to be a raccoon. Mulder shooed it out the window.
“No wonder it’s so cold in here, Mulder. Shut the window.”
“Ooo.”, said Mulder sarcastically, “That’s enough excitement for one night. I’m going to bed.”
Mulder went into the bedroom. Scully felt dirty (not in that way!) and wondered if there was soap and a shower. She went into the bathroom and much to her surprise there was soap and the shower was clean. Someone must live here.
Just as she was lathering up, it hit her. Was there a towel in the room? Was there a towel in the cabin? She rinsed up and got out of the shower, dripping wet. No towel. She was getting chilly. She screamed for Mulder.
“Mulder! Mulder! Mulder?!”
“What, Scully? I was sleeping.”
“Sorry, but I need a towel.”
“So come get one.”
“I’m kind of...um...dripping wet.”
“You took a shower? In here? You don’t even know whose cabin this is! And you took a shower in here?”
“Please, towel. I’m cold!”
Mulder found a robe, but no towels. Scully opened the door just enough for the robe to fit.
“Thank you, Mulder.”
“Your welcome.”
Scully came out of the bathroom, hair drenched, in a bathrobe, not a trace of makeup (Duh! She just got out of the shower!).
“I never saw this side of you, Scully. Great hair style. Is it the latest trend?”
“Ha ha ha.”
Scully sat on a rug by the fire. She was freezing. Mulder sat down next to her.
“Are you cold, Scully?”
“Freezing.”
Mulder put an arm around her.
“Mulder?”
“What?”
“What were you going to say before?”
“Huh?”
“Before you said being here with me made you feel...and you never got a chance to finish. What were you going to say?”
“Nothing.”
“Oh, come on. Tell me.”
Mulder looked at Scully. They shared a moment. As they were leaning towards eachother, Mulder said, “It makes me feel good. That someone I’ve known so long is here with me. Someone that I...”
He was cut off, yet again.
