Backstreet, Britney Lead Noms For MTV Europe Honors

At four nods apiece, Backstreet Boys and Britney Spears head the nominations for the sixth MTV European Music Awards, to be presented Nov. 11 at the Point Theatre in Dublin. Backstreet Boys are up for best group, pop act, album ("Millennium"), and song ("I Want It That Way"). Spears competes for best female, breakthrough artist, pop act, and song ("...Baby One More Time").

Receiving three nods apiece were the Cardigans, Boyzone, TLC, the Offspring, and Lauryn Hill.

Artists slated to appear at the show -- hosted by Boyzone lead singer Ronan Keating -- include Spears, Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, Marilyn Manson, Jamiroquai, the Offspring, Puff Daddy, the Corrs, and Underworld.

This year's event has 17 award categories, including honors for acts from the U.K./Ireland, Germany, Italy, and the Nordic region. Winners are chosen by viewers via phone and Internet polls. The show will air live on all MTV's networks.
