Recreation Travel League
For Grades 5/6 and 7/8, all players will participate on teams that compete in a recreational league format. Teams are grouped in Divisions as follows: B5/6, G5/6, B7/8, and G7/8. Littleton teams will play against each other as well as participating towns, including Shirley, Lancaster and Ayer. Each team will practice one weeknight per week, and games are held on Saturdays. All Littleton teams are formed with the goal to achieve balanced competition during games. Player Evaluations and team selection is on 11/7 (see attached schedule). Evaluations allow all coaches to assess each player’s skill/experience level, and provide the necessary information to form balanced teams. Players will be notified of his/her team and coach no later than Saturday, 11/12. Coaches will then inform each player of specific practice and game schedules. Practices will begin the week of 11/14, and games will begin on Saturday, 12/3 and continue through league playoffs ending before February school vacation.
The philosophy of this program is to provide ample playing time for all participants, teach the fundamentals of individual and team play, and encourage sportsmanship.

Instructional Program
For Grades 3 and 4, an Instructional Basketball program is offered to all participants. Players will learn the initial fundamental skills of basketball through group instruction and drills, as well as some team aspects of the game. This program does not designate formal teams, and scheduled games are not played as in the Recreation Travel League. Instructional sessions will be conducted on Saturdays at the Russell Street School gym. The season will begin on Saturday, 12/10, and end before February school vacation (see attached schedule for gender/grade time slots).
