No bail for Ninjaman


Born again Christian Desmond Ballentine, better known as "Ninjaman" or Brother Desmond will have to spend yet another day in jail after he was ordered remanded in custody at the Half-Way Tree Criminal Court yesterday.

He is scheduled to return to court today. Ballentine who was transported from the Falmouth lock Wednesday, was denied bail by Resident Magistrate Gloria Smith after yet another warrant was executed on him.

Ballentine was arrested on a warrant after he failed to show up in court on August 21, to answer to an unlawful wounding charge. Ballentine was accused of using a baseball bat to hit the complainant Henry Phipps, 31, of Kingston 11 on the head. He was arrested and charged by Constable Morris Lee of the Hunt's Bay Police Station.

Ninjaman who pleaded not guilty to the charge was granted bail in the sum of $4,000 and was to return to court for trial.

But yet another warrant was executed on him yesterday for his failure to attend court on September 5, to answer to a rape charge.

Ballentine is alleged to have held a 36 year old woman at knife point at his home on Marl Road in Kingston. The matter was reported to police and he as arrested and charged with rape. he was granted bail in the sum of $100,000 after he pleaded not guilty to the offence.
