Which is the better government?

Which of the two main political parties did a better job of managing the economy over the past 16 years?

A Wednesday Business analysis of 13 major macroeconomic variables to takes a critical look at the performance of the People's National Party (PNP) and the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP).

Overall, the economy fared badly under both parties, with problems apparent in most keys areas.

However, the JLP Government of the 1980s did better in the areas that impact on people's lives directly such as inflation, exchange rate, the creation of jobs, and managing the money supply. The PNP government of the 1990s has performed better in areas taht tend to form the longterm fabric of the economy such as the current account, external debt management, net international reserves, economic growth, private capital inflows, domestic savings rate and housing starts.
