LOWELL -- The Lowell Lock Monsters trimmed their training camp roster
to 25 players yesterday.

Lock Monster and New York Islander officials reassigned six players.
Forwards Jason Doyle and Jeff Zehr were sent back to their junior
teams. Forward J.F. Tremblay and defenseman Nick Windsor were assigned
to Roanoke. Forwards Anthony Aquino and Damian Prescott were optioned
for reassignment.

"We're almost a week from opening day, so we needed to get our numbers
down to a more realistic count," said head coach Frank Anzalone. "We
made some tough decisions today and there will be a few more before
next Friday.

"Many of the players we let go will play for our East Coast League
affiliate Roanoke, and if they perform well they could work their way
back to Lowell."

The Lock Monsters must cut their roster to 21 players by opening day
on Friday, Oct. 9.

Lowell, 1-1 in exhibition play after splitting two one-goal games with
the Providence Bruins, battle the Worcester Ice Cats Saturday in a
pre-season game at the Wallace Civic Center in Fitchburg (7 p.m.).

The final pre-season tune-up is next Tuesday night versus Adirondack
at the Glens Falls Civic Center in New York
