LOWELL -- The Lowell Lock Monsters announced yesterday that Lowell native Gary G. Campbell has been named the team's first President and Governor.

Campbell will assume the corporate and legal responsibilities of the team and oversee ownership decisions at the league level.

Campbell, the son of team co-owner Gil Campbell, has been working in his family business since 1995 managing multi-family apartment complexes in Massachusetts and New Hampshire.

In his new role, Campbell will work closely with Lock Monsters Executive Vice President Tom Rowe, who handles the day-to-day operations of the team.

"Gary is a tremendous addition to our organization," said Rowe. "His background in business and knowledge of the area will benefit us tremendously. The Lowell Sports Group is continually building for the future, so it is imperative that we have strong management. The appointment of Gary Campbell is another big step in the right direction."

Campbell has previously worked in television news, for NBC News in New York and London, and as the Paris Bureau Chief for CNN. He also had his own television production company, producing programs for CNN and many European broadcasters. He is a graduate of Brown University and earned an MBA degree at Harvard University.

"The owners of the Lock Monsters are committed to running a first class organization," said Campbell. "We're looking forward to showcasing hockey, family entertainment and the spectacular new Tsongas Arena. I'm honored to be named the team's first president and look forward to working with the great staff that is already assembled."

The Lock Monsters are the top minor-league affiliate of the New York Islanders. The American Hockey League team will begin play in the Paul Tsongas Arena this October.
