Endless Posibility

Abigail sat at a table by a window, in the local coffee shop. Half an hour before school was sopose to start. She looked out the window, it was the nicest day so far this year. Going to school would simply be a waste of this day. She didn’t care if she got caught for skipping, she just wasn’t interested in school right now. She put her mug down, and got up from the table. She left the shop, and headed for a bus stop that would take her downtown. She searched her jacket pocket for her buspass, but instead, she pulled out a small piece of paper.

“Oh my God. I forgot all about this...” Abigail held a paper with a phone number on it. It’s was Nick’s. Abigail stared at the paper. “I forgot all about this... Should I call him? Is he touring? Will he remember me? It has been almost 3 months...” Abigail didn’t know what to do. She looked at the bus schedual. She still had twenty odd minutes to kill. She stared at the number.

“What do I have to lose?” She pulled out her cell phone (she FINALLY got one last month) and she hesitantly dialed his number. She got connected to an answering service. She decided to leave him a message.

“Hi Nick. It’s Abigail. I met up with you at the Westin a few months ago after one of your concerts here in Montreal. I just found your number and decided to call you. If you want to call me back, do so att 555-2212. Hope to hear from you, bye.” She hung up her phone and stared at the ground. She didn’t realize how fast the time went by. She was awoken from her trance with the arival of the bus. She got on and read a magazine all the way downtown.

When she got downtown, she headed straight for her favorite store, the HMV mega-store. She looked through each row, scanning every CD. She was on her way to the R&B section, when her phone rang. “Probably mom pissed off for me skipping school...”

“Hello?”

“Hey... It’s me.” Abigail stopped dead in her tracks, it was Nick.

“Hi, you got my message fast...”

“Yeah, I was in the shower when you called. I didn’t make it to the phone in time. The machine got it.” There was then a slight silence.

“So, um.... Are you guys touring now or what?” She began to walk to a quiet corner of the store. “No, we aren’t touring. We’re on vacation for a week.”

“So where are you now? At home?”

“Not exactly. My mom and Aaron are with me, but we’re not at home. We’re here in Montreal.”

“Here? Now?”

“Yeah. Aaron has some interviews to do, and I taged along. Who would have thought that my little brother would be so big? So what are you doing today? Arenn’t you sopose to be in school right now?”

“Uh, yeah. But I didn’t quite fell like going today... I’m thinking of at-home schooling, so I can persue some of my intrests.”

“Intrests? Like what?”

“Mostly dancing and writing... So, what are you doing today?”

“Nothing. While my mom if off with Aaron, I’m stuck in the hotel all alone, all day.”

“Well, what hotel are you at now? I’m downtown, so if it’s close by, I could come see you...”

“I’m at the Hotel des Gouverneurs.”

“I’m right by there. Mind if I come and visit?”

“Not at all. Room 415, fourth floor. How long will you be?”

“Um, ten minutes?”

“Ok, see you then, bye.”

“Yeah bye.” Abigail hung up her phone, as she went to pay for her two CD’s (Brian McKnight’s Anytime and Next’s CD, for your big fat imformation) she wonderd why she felt great about seeing Nick again. She had told herself to forget about him, but she just couldn’t seem to grasp that thought...

She got there and headed straoght to the elevator, and went to the fourth floor. She was a little nervous, but it quickly passed. She searched the halls.

“Room 415. Here I am,” she said aloud. She knocked on the door and waited. When Nick opened the door, Ab’s heart skipped a beat. He was wearing big dark blue jeans and a a white tank top.

“Hey, come on in.”He said. She slowly walked in, looking around. Nick closed the door, and sat on one of the two beds in the room, and motioned for Abigail to sit on the other. She was a little edgy about it, but she did so anyways. The two fo them ended up talking about everything from school, to friends, to childhood memories.

“Um, when is your mom and Aaron sopose to be back?” Abigail suddenly asked.

“Not for a while, an hour at least. Why?”

“Well, I’m not sure if I want them to see me here. They might think something funny...”

“No they wouldn’t. I’ve already told them about you.” Abigail stared at Nick.

“You told them? Why?”

“Well, I wanted them to know. I told my mom how we met, she was alittle disapointed about the whole inviting you to the hotel thing, but she said that she’d like to meet you.”

“Hold on a second. Your mom wants to meet me? Isn’t there some other girl you may have met on tour? You haven’t seen me for over three months, I didn’t even think you rememberd me...”

“How could I forget you? You were so natural with me. You didn’t try to take advantage of the situation. You treated me the way you would have to a friend. I can’t lie, I did see this one other girl once. I invited her to the hotel after a show, and she came in practically nothing, and them she tried to get more out of me that a nice conversation. Ever since then, I have been totally turned off by all fans. And ever since then, I’ve been thinking about you, wondering if I should call. I was just too scared...” Abigail didn’t answer, she didn’t know what to say. She just sat on the bed in silence.

“It’s okay if you don’t believe me, or if you think I’m lying, or-”

“Nick, I don’t think any of that.” She got up from her bed, and sat next to Nick on his. “I’m just surprised, that’s all.”

“Surprised that I like a girl?”

“Surprised that you like me...” She looked up at him. “There are so many girls out in the world that you could have. I’m just confused.” Nick thought for a moment, then he spoke up.

“Does this feel right?”

“Hun?”

“Does this feel right to you? Does being here, right now, with me, feel right to you?”

Abigail didn’t answer.

“Does it?” He repeated.

“Yeah, it does, but that doesn’t mean anything.”

“Feelings don’t lie...” He looked at her. “And this feels very right to me.”

“But this can’t work. We’ll only see each other every now and then, we’ll never be able to spend time together, we wont be able to tell anyone...”

“Shh. You’re panicing already. Let’s just take everything one step at a time. We’ve already made the first one, telling each other how we feel.” Abigail looked at him. He looked back. She put her hand on top of his, and lightly sqeezed it. He did the same in return.

An hour passed by, and Nick and Abigail were still talking. By now, Abigail had herself proped up against the headboared ot the bed, and Nick was lying down with his head rested on her lap. She was playing with his hair, you know, running it through her fingers.

Their converstaion was cut short when the door swung open, and Aaron came running in, jumping on Nick. Nick sat up.

“Hey Aaron. How was the interview?”

“Fine,” he noticed Abigail. “Who’s your friend?”

“This is Abigail, the girl I told you and mom about.”

“Hi,” Abigail said.

“Hi,” Aaron replied. He leaned over and whisperd into Nick’s ear. “She’s pretty.” Nick chuccled to himself. He picked up Aaron from his lap, and got off the bed.

“Where’s mom?” He asked.

“Outside talking to the bodyguard.” Aaron replied, turning on the t.v.

“Cm’ere” Nick said, putting his hand out to Abigail. She grabbed his hand, and got up from the bed, letting Nick lead her. He brought her to the front door, and at the same moment, his mom walked in.

“Hi mom,” he kissed her on the cheek. “I’d like you to meet Abigail,” he pointed.

“So... This is the girl you’ve been constantly telling me about?” She walked into the room. “I’m Jane. It’s nice to meet you.”

“Same here.” The three of them all ended up talking for a while, when Jane realized that it was time for another one of Aaron’s interviews. This time Nick had to go with them, since he was going to be in it too.

“Well, I’m going to have to get home anyways, so why don’t I just go now?” Abigail said.

“I guess so. What are you doing tomorrow? Seemings as it is a Saturday...” Nick asked.

“Nothing up to date. Why don’t you call me later? I’ll leave my phone on. Kay?”

“Sounds good to me. I’ll call you later.” He walked her to the door, and opened it.

“Bye,” she said.

“Bye,” he replied, but he also kissed her cheek before she did leave. She smiled at him, and went to catch her bus.

Abigail got home an hour later, and she went straight downstairs to watch some t.v. She turned to the frence music channel, and she caught the middle of the interview with Aaron and Nick. She smiled, remembering that she was just with Nick this afternoon. They were now asking Nick a few questions.

“So Nick, the public wants to know... Are you still single and available?”

He paused before answering the question. Abigail was interested in what he was going to answer. A small smile came across his face.

“Um... I wouldn’t call myself single... More like a guy who’s found what he’s been looking for...”

He simply looked at the ground and smiled. Abiagil smiled to herself also. Suddenly her phone rang. She picked it up.

“Hello?”

“Hi Ab’s. Are you watchin the music station? Nick just said he WASN’T single!!! Who’s the girl who got him!!! Why wasn’t it me!!!” It was her best friend Robyn. She was in love with Nick, and Abigail never told her about Nick. She couldn’t.

“Um... I have no idea who the girl is, but I think he’s happy...” Abigail took one last look at the screen, and forgot about Robyn. I know I’m happy...
