SoundBuzz's BuzzHunt in KL

Soundbuzz.com is a Singapore based company which
sells MP3s on the internet. They were opening an
office in Kuala Lumpur, so they organised this
free event to launch. Very nicely done, good
sound quality and good presentantion (well,
nothing less expected from such a company,
really) Anyhow, this was the final for their
Buzzhunt competition. Out of 14 local acts,
six were selected from the two previous
showcases to perform in front of uhm..whats
the name? you know, that unaffordable shopping
mall in Bukit Bintang. In the list of finalists
were FLU, Nervewreck, Seven Collar T-Shirt,
Love Me Butch, Margaret Drive and Lyme. Awesome
performance by all the bands, honestly. In fact,
the bands that played in the two previous
showcases (KL Plaza and HELP college) were
equally deserving a piece of what happened that
day. Anyhow, the event started late since we
(the bands) took our time to show up..
I got a good scolding for arriving at 12 when
I had to be there at 11am (I had to set up Lymeus
Delta, plus I had to borrow a monitor from someone,
since I still have none)..so the thing started off
around 1:30, with victor and boy still at home
and with a warning of disqualification if we
were not all there in time to play..yeah, yeah,
ok, we know. Anyways, the bands played excellent
again. We were not really there with the mind
to win anything, sincerely speaking, since we had
enough with just making it to the finals and being
able to show our music to the people present there..
so we made a "ah so what!" songset..which
included Jungle Mech and Something in it, two of
our most fun songs. We opened with Jungle, and had
a good time playing it! Lymeus sounded great and the
mixing of the sound was nicely done.
As things got warmed up, Boy and Victor were
tuning down to D to play Something while I told
the people through the microphone that competitions
were not a nice thing to do and its not what the
underground bands are playing for, since we are
all there for the mutual help and teamwork, not
to pin each other down. That said, Lymeus Delta
suddenly went bonkers, due to the vibrations
from jumping around that wobbly stage during the
first song..its happened before so it wasnt too
surprising. Hey, its a computer after all, not
a guitar. hehe. Nevertheless, we played Something
without it, giving me more time to just dance
and run around the stage. We let everything go
and did everything we were told not to..we
"misbehaved in public" (I kicked mike stands
around), we "used profanity" (I didnt censor my
lyrics) and we "misbehaved in public" again as
I jumped on the small crowd of friends moshing when
we were done with our chaotic set and danced the waltz
that boy, victor and moez were playing to conclude the
song with a guy friend when I was put down.
And to the irony of things, we won the first place.
We were completely surprised for the result. Victor
went on stage with other representatives of the other
bands and received the prize, a plexiglas box with a
pair of headphones inside that read "soundbuzz.com" and
a message with the date and the title of the event.
We also received 50 hours of recording time, which
we are still wondering what will we do with it since
we already finished recording Oveourotherarth..darn,
too late! The other bands got 20 hours of recording time.
Anyways, afterwards we thanked the people who
spent sleepless nights organising the event and headed off
to M-Cities for the Family Day showcase that day, in
the shopping mall nextdoor. END.

go back.
