"Live as One"
A charity gig for the gender apartheid in Afghanistan

We received a call from RWFH and were invited to
perform in this charity gig at a place where we had
never played before, Carlos Zubir's pub, now known
as the Artiste Club. Earlier in the afternoon, the
organiser was panicky for the low attendance, but
the bands made her feel better by blaming the rain..
and insisting more people would come later..which
did happen in a way, but still probably not enough
people as she would have liked. Probably because the
flyer was released less than a week before the event..
Anyways, the whole show was amazing, and very much worth
the ten ringgits fee! Lyme were the opening band for the
night. I reminded people about the reason they were
there, and insisted that those were the best 10 bucks
they had spent in the whole month. After a while of
explaining the Afghanistan's women situation, our set
started suddenly with 'Nothing'. We went on to new
songs like Entenderas and Jungle Mech, which we took
extra energy to prepare the night before..we all
dressed up for the occasion (Jungle Mech), where
we pretended to be mechwarrior, just for the fun of
it...! I brought along Boy's helmet, Moez's scuba
goggles, a mix between Victor's old crutches and
a camera stand (duct taped together) and Boy's
recently bought rubber boots to make up a costume
for the ending of the song (well, people said we
looked more like terrorists). Boy and Victor were
wearing mountain crossing masks (you know, ski-masks)
and we were all moving to a very robotic rhythm.
(but people still thought we were terrorists).
Anyways, the rest of the set went fine, we played
Size does Matter in record time since we were sick
of playing it so many times and we decided to do a
psycho-fast version of it. After our opening set
was over, International School band Punk Sox came
up to the guitars and mikes and gave an energetic
punk set of original songs, calling hips of attention
and getting people to ask their emails and numbers
to call them for more gigs later! Following their
set came the bands Roana, seven collar tshirt,
Love me Butch, Sputum, Senseless (well, their
project band Satyrx) and good old spunky funggy)..
but the band of the night was definitely SCTS with
an incredibly powerful and energetic show that
swept people off their chairs and threw them into
the mosh pit with their excellent mature melodies.
Whoever still calls SCTS grunge is completely
missing out! Those guys are playing top quality
music and its really something to watch! All bands
did an awesome job that night, motivated by the
fact that everyone was having a good night! Shame
not many people came to see the entire event,
but then again, the cosy, small gig vibe was probably
what helped it become such an excellent experience!
