Tree-Top-Tall Inky-Armed Sounds Of the Underground Gig (whew!)

For the underground's information sake, I'll
write what happened that day.. The Sydney 2000
gig was not what we had expected, and it all had
its good reasons. I won't mention any names,
although the people responsible know who they are.
The gig was just another chance to play music and
have fun, until the news that it was going to be
recorded into a live compilation and sold in CD
format around Asia, reached the bands. The news came
in quite late, the day before the gig to be exact.
Nothing was informed to the bands, and panic spread
the day of the gig. "Oh shit, we're being recorded
against our will and we'll be sold out around Asia,
and probably won't get a cent out of it!" was
going through most of the bands' minds. And not
playing would not be fair for the people that
actually paid the entrance fee (who were not many),
so it was a lose-lose situation!
As it was, the gig went on, with the bands playing
half-hearted, but enjoying it..there wasnt much
activity from the few people in the place (except
during random parts of the whole gig). The sound
was quite good and clear (of course, if it was
going to be recorded..!) When our turn came, my
mood was down on the floor...we played our set
of four or five songs, but at the end I couldn't
continue anymore..knowing that we were giving our
songs away for free, without asking us..it was too
much..it felt like a little part of us was being
taken away unfairly after every song, so at the
middle of Size does Matter, our last song of the set,
I stopped the guys instruments and asked for
them to stop playing..which they did suddenly, half
way through the song..they didnt like it (they told
me after the confusion was finished, a while later).
I felt bad for the guys, since I blocked their
instruments..I dont know what went through my head
at the time..I just thought we were being stupid by
giving the songs that we worked so hard for away like
that, and well..so it happened. Thanks for the people
who understood..again. I apologize for those who
were enjoying the song..I wasn't, I'm sorry..shit.
Anyways, after our set, the rest of the bands played,
and doing similar things now and then too! It was cool..
they too did not like the idea of giving their songs
away without permission..so they also didn't give all
their best. If you went to the gig and saw some bands
for the first time, then try following them to another
performance again someday..
Anyways, sorry again, like someone I know said..
unexpected things do happen! But heads up! There will
be other gigs and more experiences for all of us to
enjoy! Learn from our mistakes we say! Peace, people,
until the next one!
